Effortless Wheel hub/rotor rust cleanup method
Trick I learned while back. Shotglass of muriatic acid, you can dilute it more if you wish, old toothbrush, and a few minutes of effort.
Muriatic acid is used for swimming pools to control PH levels I think. Sounds scary but with little common sense it's safe. Muriatic acid LOVES to eat rust. Ground rules. Safety Glasses Old tupperware filed with a little water for drips Latex gloves Good ventilation Spray bottle of water/dish soap mix Naked metal... Or no concern for removing coatings Great and fast way to completely clean an area from mild rust or iron oxidation. Way better and easier than sandpaper. See before/after pics. What you see was 6 minutes of gentle scrubbing with tooth brush and redipping occasionally. Gently dip and brush, dip and brush.... Wait a feels minutes to let it work, dip and brush... When you get the desired effect spray area with water/dish soap mix, then hit area with compressed air, then spray your favorite oil spray, CLP, etc to recoat metal with oil. You can use the drippings in the pan for soaking any bolts/brake hardware that need to be cleaned as well. I have had success with soaking in liquid blue chemical afterwards to restore some semblance of a coating after removing rust. Remember to bath the part in oil afterwards. Enjoy!!!
