2016 2ss brakes
Hello I am doing my first track night this month. I have a 2016 2ss 30k miles and this is the first brake job. I am mostly street and hope to do 2-3 track days. I was about to swap my brakes and rotors over to powerstop from what shops were telling me. But from here sounds like a bad idea. I have lips on my rotors so i want to replace them. should i just go with OEM? and does anyone have good part numbers? I found on here the 1LE part numbers but of course different brakes.

Regret, i don't know the part numbers, but you might find them by google or rockauto. to your question of staying OEM or not, i will share i'm new to tracking and in the track days i've done so far, i have yet to find the limits of my stock rotors and pads. One of those track days included COTA and their long back straight.... Brakes were flawless and no fade during my sessions. I did install the larger air flow directors and smaller rotor shields. so unless your really pushing hard and/or experienced racer, you are likely fine with OEM to start out. As krops noted, it's not hard to change to dot 4 and probably a good idea even for first time.

Was seeing the same Power stop brakes on Rock auto and Wildhammer.. What about Stoptech rotors? they anygood. like the slotted only?
If Not ill place the order on OEM rotors and brakes. This is for a sunny day car that I want to start tracking. I wont be doing any extreme track time anytime soon. BUT i dont want to have brake fade and be in a ditch. Last edited by kleners; 03-10-2021 at 03:31 PM. |

I have found that starting with a good dot 4 fluid similar to Brembo HT64, Motul 660 or Castrol Srf are all great options. As far as pads go I have found Hawk DTC60 to be my favorite but there are plenty of other great options out there like Ferodo, Carbotech, G-loc, etc... Rotors there isn't a ton out there on the market.. Could go with stoptech slotted or OEM is always a good route to go. If you need help with anything feel free to shoot a PM.

Well I picked up some Brake pads at Summit today. They sold me Hawk street 5.0. Went to put the rears on and they dont even fit. the plate is too big and hits the caliper mount. The front look almost twice as wide as the factory pads. Are these the factory pads GM Genuine Parts 171-1141 front GM Genuine Parts 171-1127 rear
