Sebring with patched/plugged tire?

Hi All,
Fairly new to track days and going to Sebring June 4th. I currently have a nail in my rear tire. What is the general consensus on patching or plugging a tire and driving on track?

New tire or plug/patch?

I would not recommend running a patched tire and a plug is simply a bad practice period.

Patch and/or plug is fine for street use.

For track? Nope.

I wouldn't recommend it.
However, I did a track day at Buttonwillow in California with 1 out of 4 plugged Uniroyal all-season tires (I didn't know any better at the time). Nothing bad happened, but be careful.

Been there, new tire. It goes flat in 17 (aka Wal-Mart parking lot), it's gonna hurt

I just plugged a rear tire. But it’s street set only. I did autocross do on a plugged tire no problem. You could drag race to if plugged per spec. But 20 minute road course sessions? I wouldn’t

If it's small and can be repaired properly to RMA/USTMA standards I don't think there is any issue. If you would feel better though replace it.

If you plugged it properly it is not going to fail. The bigger issue is balance. I plugged a tire myself, ran it at an Autocross, but on the way back I realized the mass of the plug had thrown the wheel out of balance. So I ended up going to the tire shop to get it balanced. I should have just taken it to them in the first place and had them do a proper patch. I later ran the tire at Thunderhill with no issues. You can't even tell where the plug is.

A plugged/patched tire loses it's speed rating (H and above).

You'll be ~140mph on long straight at Sebring.

Patched tire is fine for street or AutoX, not for track. Consider it $300 of insurance.

I've used a patched and plugged SC3 tire up to 140mph a few years ago on track. I ended up getting five track days out of it without drama. Ran the set close to the cords.

Plug is no go

Patched and balanced from a reputable tire shop and you’re probably fine. I’d send it.
