Removing Vinyl Wrap
Guys, I bought a slightly used 2015 a couple of weeks ago and the original owner wrapped the hood to make it look like a 1le. Obviously its not a 1le so i want to remove the wrap.
I looked through youtube and there seems to be way more videos on how to install it than on how to remove it. Is there any specific way I need to do this? Am I in for a nightmare like when removing window tint with all the glue left behind? Thanks for any help! |

I don't think vinyl really has a lot of glue to it like tint. Tint is very sticky because the glass it sticks to is very slick. Not the same with vinyl. Should be able to find a corner and work from there. Peel it slow and steady.

Park it in the sun for a while before you start. That will loosen things up a bit.

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately it looks like the wrap is here to stay. The guy painted the hood black before he wrapped it. I was hoping he only painted the bottom side but nope, whole hood. I removed the vent and checked before i just started peeling vinyl.

Wow, smart to check before you started pulling the wrap! Oh well, hope you enjoy the look and who cares if it's a real 1LE or not? Hell, add the GM factory 1LE parts, and there you are!

Well, I guess he does. Looks like I have 2 options, deal with the wrap or get the hood re-painted. I will probably deal with the wrap. It doesn't look bad, I actually like it but one of my biggest pet peeves is making something appear as something its not. I guess I'm "that guy" now.

I'm betting the paint job didn't turn out that well so he wrapped it ...

The wrap is a pain to remove. I just put a new wrap on back in June and it took longer to take the wrap off then to put the new one on. I think it took an hour and a half to get it off if I remember right with 3 people working on it in parts. A good heat gun helps. A hair dryer would work, just not as good. You can pick up a heat gun from home depot for less than $30. You could probably get the hood repainted fairly cheap. It's not like you're painting the whole car.
