Tires & Brake Pads

Hey all, just wanted to get everyone's opinions to see what has worked and has not worked for people in the tire and brake pad category. First off, tires. A local tire guy here in Charlotte can get me the stock Goodyear F1's (installed) for $13xx and he can also get me the Michelin Pilot SuperSports (installed) for $16xx. I track the car at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I'm not very familiar with the Michelin's so some input would help greatly. Of course I want all the grip and for them to last longer than 10,000 miles! Second, brake pads. I'm sure I'm going to have to replace mine soon. Does anyone have any input based on type (regular or ceramic), manufacturer, etc.? Especially for track and daily driving use. Thanks guys, I appreciate it

All good questions, i don't know the answers for 100% certain for the 6th gen, but on our track cars (3rd gen and some mazdas) we are running Bridgestone RE71R or BFG Rival-S and that is working for us in the endurance races (2 7 hours races or 1 14 hour race).

As far as pads go, i have just picked up a set of Hawks HPS5.0 for my 1LE, i'll let you know what I think of them (they are dusty, so cleaning the wheels will become a priority after a track day or autocross)

The 1LE doesn't come with Goodyear F1's, it comes with Supercar 3, and Michelin SuperSport's are replaced by the Pilot Sport 4S. Find a new tire guy, yours isn't up to speed.

You have to make a real decision. You can't have "all the grip" and have them last 10k miles. Both the Supercar 3 and the PS4S are good compromises, however the stock Supercar 3's bias towards more grip and less treadlife, and the PS4S go the other way.

As for brakes, thanks to the Mods, the main thread is finally a sticky. That said, given the tires you're mentioning and how you're asking, the stock SS 1LE Ferodo HP1000 pads are perfectly paired for you.

The Goodyear’s he has are Eagle F1 Supercar 3, my bad for not being entirely specific and the Michelin’s are Pilot Sport 4s, just called the clarify and I heard him wrong, that’s my fault. As for brake pads, would going to the ceramic pads be good or bad? I know they cut down on brake dust which would be awesome but i don’t know how they are on performance

You are close to Essex Parts.. go chat with those guys, they can steer you in the right direction on pads. And you could pick them up locally.

Otherwise, check out the track pad thread, there's a ton on info in there.

As Ryephile suggested re: tire wise.
RE71R in 295 square is also a good option and pretty much on par with G3s or Cup2s wear and grip wise + or - a couple if tenths pace and venue wise dependent.
As far as pads if you want a single pad that does it all well (street and track) stockers are it imo.

Never track a ceramic pad. If you are just looking for low dust, low noise daily pad, ceramics are fine, but you give up a lot of braking performance.
