Hot Wheels & Hugger Orange

"This time we thought we would do a tribute to Hugger Orange. Besides T-tops, the second question I get most often is usually, “Why don’t you do Hugger Orange anymore?” That was a lacquer-born paint. We don’t do lacquer-born anymore, but this is a nonmetallic waterborne paint and it takes you back to the nonmetallics of the late ’60s. It gave us the palette to celebrate Hugger Orange".

Hi Al and Team,
Can you expand on your Hagerty.com quote and give additional insight to the decision making process over your time as as Chief concerning Hugger orange? To us, it seems like Hugger is a slam dunk decision and from the start with Inferno Orange we've been on the edge, but no cigar. Obviously there is more to it and now this tribute color seems to be the culmination of those discussions. I'd like to hear more.

The new color is awesome but was the intention to get it as close as possible to Hugger with metallic paint or is this something new. Was it the team's intention to duplicate Hugger and since the paint type is different a new name? Seems like the name would sell on it's own so wondering why it wasn't used? Also, does Mattel limit this color to "their" car package only since we haven't seen specific Hot Wheel colors outside the package.

Dodge has been very successful with Plumb Crazy and Hugger is even more iconic especially in the eyes of Chevrolet fans. If they can do it why can't we? Without going into future plans and just looking back it would be nice to hear details of the round table discussions and challenges to bringing this iconic color back in the form of this Hot Wheels Hugger tribute.

Thank you for your time and team effort, to connect with the enthusiasts.

The colors look REALLY close. I'd like to see them side by side someday.

I wonder too why they didn't use the name. Good Question

They do look super close. the only reason I can think of why the team decided not to use the name is because it would not truly be Hugger- Orange because they no longer do the lacquer-born paint anymore.
Or perhaps they wanted to wait and put it on a Non- special edition car.
I really hope the Camaro team brings this Hot wheels to Fest!

I'm pretty sure it's official name is called 'Orange Crush' If I'm wrong please correct. I do know there is a COPO of this Hotwheels also and it's orange paint color is completely different.

They always do bring this kind of stuff.

I just thought there would be some cool discussion around this iconic color. Would love to see orange crush on some other camaros like a ZL1 1LE but I'm thinking Hot Wheels has them locked up on this one.

Keep in mind that unfortunately, there was a massive market shift into metallic colors. So HOSS got discontinued and made into sunset orange which I haaaaaaaaaate. But, Chevy proved themselves right as the color was a huge hit, made it into their entire portfolio and do a search..a SOM F-body easily adds a few bucks to the price tag on the used market. Highly sought after color, even though I think its hideous.

Hugger Orange is possibly the greatest color ever made. Competition Orange is right there with it IMO
