Sad that GM can say F-U to so many people with crappy Exhuast.
I paid extra Money to get the NPP option on my SS. It is a part that failed. Fix it or replace it.

Well I just got back from the dealership and they couldn't replicate the rattle. I knew they wouldn't be able to. I really can only hear it when it's below 50, and it's was 70 this morning.

Different dealership heard the rattle and applied the TSB, add me to the list of those of you who still have the rattle. Wonder if the 2019 has a newer exhaust.

I think the reason this fix isn't working for a lot of people has to do with the way it is being performed by the techs at the dealerships. It is crucially important for the exhaust valves to be perfectly clean when the epoxy is applied, otherwise it will quickly slough off under stress because it will bond to the underlying soot and not the metal of the valve. Additionally, the valves should be room temperature and dry when the epoxy is applied in order for it to set properly. Finally, the spec sheet on the epoxy states that it can take up to 24hrs for maximum hardness. This is a slow meticulous process, not a quick fix, and i can guarantee that the techs at the dealership do not take the necessary steps to make it successful. I did the fix myself about six months ago, and have been rattle free since, and believe me, i drive the car hard. Here are the steps i followed:
1.) Let the car completely cool down (hours) before beginning. 2.) Scrub the valve clean on both sides with a hard bristled tooth brush taped to a long screwdriver using brake cleaning fluid. This requires several rounds of cleaning, until the valve basically looks brand new. The easiest way to do it is to have the valve in the open position and scrub from above and below, spraying the fluid directly onto the brush between passes. Use accessory mode to rotate the valve without starting the engine, in order to monitor your progress. (Unfortunately, the back of the valve won't be visible, so just do your best.) 3.) Once satisfied with the cleanliness of your valve, allow the break fluid to completely evaporate from the valve and the exhaust pipe within. it must be bone dry. 4.) Generously apply the freshly opened and mixed epoxy with a q-tip taped to a long screwdriver to both sides of the valve as per the TSB. Be careful not to apply the epoxy to the side of the exhaust pipe where the pin enters. The front of the valve is facing you when the valve is closed. The back of the valve is on top, when the valve is opened. Again, use accessory mode to rotate the valve without starting the engine. 5.) Allow the epoxy to cure for at least 24hrs before starting the engine This process worked for me (so far). Hope it works for others. |

GM pays techs 36 minutes to do this repair including getting the car, racking it properly, thoroughly cleaning valve, going to parts counter for epoxy, applying epoxy, AND let the vehicle clog your service bay for 1 hour before starting. Then test and park it in ready lot.
4081238* Applying Epoxy to Exhaust Valve Pins 0.6 hr 36 minutes! Good luck with that Most techs are excellent, but nobody wants to work for free. Question: Any 2018's have this problem? g

I couldn't agree with you more. This is clearly a GM problem and not a tech or dealership problem. GM has set those poor guys up for failure from the get go. All I'm saying is I think the fix can be successful if done properly, and people should try to do it on their own. It's not rocket science, just takes some time. I have zero automotive experience. I Have never even done an oil change, and I was able to do it. |

You'd hear it at idle if that was it. One option is to have them let you hear another ZL1 from their lot - does it make the noise too? Probably not. The other option is to try another dealer. f

I just had my "Rattle" fixed at the dealer yesterday. The fix seemed to work for now. A good way to hear if you have this problem, at least for me is to push the start button without touching the pedals for 5 secs, this turns on everything except the engine. This is how I heard the "rattle". I put it in Tour mode too.

My Camaro just started to rattle this morning after I got off from work (I work nights shifts). I have a '17 2LT V6 RS w/ NPP. I only hear the rattle when I apply light or heavy acceleration and it doesn't matter if it's in touring or sport mode (I never use ice/snow). It doesn't happen when the vehicle is just idling. Whatever it is, I took it straight to the dealership that had just opened. They performed the epoxy "fix" and let the car sit for 8 hours while I went home and slept. Around 5pm they called me to inform me that the fix did not work, the rattle is still there, and that I can pick up the car while they order a new exhaust and wait for it to arrive so they can replace it. My car has 11,200 miles.
My service advisor was very knowledgeable, he already knew about the bulletin and even share the fact that they have already seen several Camaros come in for the same issues. He stated that the bulletin has different procedure based on the engine and build date for the Camaro (to either repairing or replacing first). For my V6 it called for a repair first but if that didn't solve the issue that a replacement would be the next step. In my opinion, everyone should just have their exhaust replaced. Even if the epoxy holds and stops the rattle it will only be a matter of time before the rattle comes back (maybe after warranty expires). Glue is always wear and tear no matter what kind it is. Either way, I'm glad my dealership didn't give me a hard time in getting the issue resolved.

+1 I'd like to know that as well, good dealer shops are hard to find.
