I would say all 2016 Camaros will weigh minimum of 200lbs less, with the performance models getting a bigger reduction by using exotic materials. But that could be negated by the increased weight of the additional performance equipment(supercharger, turbo, bigger brakes etc). In that case all models may end up with about the same weight overall.

Don't forget the added midrange from the new lt1 compared to the ls3. The torque and less weight should make for a quick car.

This is right in line with all the speculation that's been going around for the past year or so...it's good news but it was expected all along.

I just wish Ford had made a more competitive 2015 Mustang instead of the ho hum product they delivered for the thousands of "we'll buy anything new with a pony stamped on it" crowd. They didn't seem concerned with setting the bar very high for Chevy.

Well, Ford did state that they didn't benchmark the Camaro. Maybe they should have.

GM will probably rate it at 445-450 but in reality it will still have the 460hp.

My curiosity is whether they are referring to each variant from 2015 to 2016 or if only the top model or bottom model has shaved over 200 lbs. Those with the composite suspension members will have the most weight savings, but those probably only come with the heavier/stiffer pistons on the performance variants to keep them highly competitive on paper.

Personal note 1: Looks like the center console will be going to a more traditional affair with a normal center stack in the dash. I think this is a good thing. I'm looking forward to something more ergonomic and easier to customize.

Personal note 2: My fear that Gen6 is going to end up looking like a Scion FR-S competitor have not yet been quelled. I hope it has all been epic misdirect with the front clip, hood and those lights. "Body by Veilside, lights by APC, bred for the '95 Eclipse, now available in American RWD"? ;o(
sorry, but as soon as I see "FR-S competitor" in the post about the Camaro I just

a small light car w/ 200HP and skinny tires - optimized for drifting vs. a GT Performance coup w/460HP - sorry I just don't get the comparison. Yes, both cars will have four wheels, headlights, and a grill.

Awesome news...and confirms what many of us have been thinking would happen all along. A base Mustang GT is a bit over 3,700 lbs and now it looks as though the Camaro will be right there, and I'd go so far to say that there is a good chance that the Camaro could weigh less than Mustang.

It does sound like Chevy is moving in the right direction, though. Fingers crossed.
GM says the car will weigh at least 200 lbs less...as in the PR release they say this is in "curb weight"...so I say take it for what it is worth and don't read into it. In the Mustang's case Ford never said the car would weigh less. Some components may weigh less, but it was the media/fanboys that went crazy and predicted a weight loss, which as we know now...didn't happen.

As stated above, the real question for the new Camaro is whether every trim will weigh at least 200 lbs less, or will it just be specific models? (base to base, or 1LE to 1LE for example)

I have the faith, that it will be across the entire range of Camaros. Are you guys excited yet? Now we have a chance of a sub 3,700 lb 1LE. How awesome would that be?? A V6 model with the new 335HP LGX could weigh at or under 3,500 lbs. That's a huge win and would provide awesome performance for the price.

Call me even more excited now.

Chevrolet knows the interior was a complain on the 5th gen. Don't expect them to skimp on it for the 6th gen.

200lb weight loss across all trims would be a huge success, can't wait to see the final weight tally

I don't think the Camaro will look anything like a FR-S/BR-Z, but I don't see why it would be a bad thing if it did. those are some nice looking cars.

Look at the caption for the first picture on the right in the gm article. Specifically says "curb weight"

Lighter and more powerful will be an awesome combination for the Gen 6 Camaro. I am excited to see what it actually looks like and how cool the interior is.
