Tire pressure for Hoosier slicks

What kind of rear tire pressure are you running? I am set up with 28x10-17 slicks on 17x9.5 wheels.

First of all you need to screw them down as I have. I run 11 to 12 lbs on most tracks. I don't run any tubes because they sometimes get pinched inside the slick. I've tried running down a little lower but the car tends to move around on the big end. I'm on my second set of slicks with over 130 passes on my first set.

Screw them down?

And thanks for clarifying on the tube, summit showed these tires not requiring tubes and Jegs said they did.

I've never used tubes and I bought mine from Summit. I run 5 screws on the outside bead and 5 on the inside. You have to drill thru the aluminum bead on the wheel and I use a hex headed screw and it pierces the bead on the slick and keeps it from spinning on the wheel. Its like a bead lock. If the tire is spinning on the wheel that's not good. We've been screwing the beads together for a very long time, like 50 years. I'll get the size I use and post it for you.

Do you have a picture of that, I’m total knob of this. My goal is to hit 9.99 by end of year but I thought I would get the bead locks. What’s the screws your talking about?

I was doing that back in the 60s with M&H wrinkle walls screwed to rims. Tubes were mandatory back then.

I used to bolt my ET Streets to my rallye wheels back in the day. Didn't think about doing it with my new set up. Not sure I want to drill into my race stars. is that still pretty common? I think I will be going the bias ply set up.

Yeah I am not really interested in the idea of drilling holes into my race stars. so I might just hope for the best running no tube and maybe start around 13-14 psi and see how it responds to the track

If your going that route and not screwing them down take some shoe polish and mark on the tire up from the valve stem, that will let you know if the tire is spinning on the wheel. If it does you'll need to put some screw in it, you can even do it on thme back side of the wheels where no one can see them. Its pretty easy to do and I also have the 17x9.5 Race Stars
