17x10 tire drag set up.

What is the tallest tire you guys have been able to fit on a 17x10 wheel. I just ordered my forgestar 17in drag wheels and haven't decided on a tire yet... curious just how big I can go with stock suspension???

Thanks in advance.

From my reading. Going tall is the wrong way to go.
You want to keep it around or under 27".
275/45/17 or 295/40/17

X2 !! Shortest tire that will hook ( will give you more gear + less reciprocating mass )

The height depends on your power goals. If your keeping it na then a shorter lighter tire will probably make you faster. If your going with a power adder and making a shit ton of hp taller is probably going to work out better for you.

I would go with a 305/45/17 but a smaller tire would be quicker up to the point it no longer hooks.

I will be using a power adder, plan on being 7-800hp. Stock suspension for the time being. 305/45 is what I had planned on. Just wanted some extra input on the subject before diving in.

Well... since you will have 700+hp....
I would agree with taller.

I'm wondering why go 17x10 and not 17x9.5 like I found was recommended for our cars?

I not sure of your source... Forgestar and my local tire connect both recommended 10inch over 9.5.
You're limited to a 295 tire width on a 9.5. Anything wider will start to bubble the sidewall.

I agree
Yep you'll need some side wall , and the tire is 27.9 inches in height so not really losing any gear there either .

Probably the best combo you can bolt on there Especially for a power adder .
And def go with 10 inch rim . Just check the proper back spacing and caliper clearance also.

Our car comes stock with a 9.5” rim, if you want traction you need rubber on the road and wider tires give you just that.

I run Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S in a 304/45R17 Andy it has been better than any Nitto or Hoosier tire I have tried. Don’t waste your time and money on anything else, honestly! I’ve done the testing. Unless you go full slick this is as good as it gets!

I agree other than running a 15” rear wheel. That is the max effort set up.

That’s true, if you’re willing to put the 15” wheel kit on for that added side wall, you will certainly do much better. I haven’t done that to this car yet. Not sure if I will.

Any input on what to run up front? I'm going with the race star 17x9.5 with the Mickey Thompson 305/45r17 what size would you recommend for the fronts?
