ZL1 1LE Alignment Bolts

Abel Chevrolet in Antioch CA just informed me we have to change 6 torque-to-yield 1-time use bolts every time we change alignment. 4 front and 2 rear.

I thought it was just 2 1-time use bolts.

Other than Abel, dealer service and parts people here have no idea about this.

And changing the rear bolts is not easy because they're under stress from the springs, makes re-alignment a much longer process.

Is this for sure a thing? I'm taking mine tomorrow to 3R here in Denver for a track alignment, they didn't mention anything about needing to bring replacement bolts. They said they've done several ZLE's. They are a long time respected competent shop.

They are in fact one use torque to yield bolts , and have specific torque procedures . Having said that there are people who have reused them . I personally have ordered a few sets to get me thru track season . I guess it’s up to you and your shop to do what you feel comfortable with .

3R is a great shop.

The fronts are reusable in my experience. I’ve never had the front slip. The rears should be replaced, but you might be able to get a couple out of them.

Are these dealer stock items in your experience? Maybe I can go pick them up on my way to 3R or something. Anyone have part numbers on all the bolts needed by chance?

Thanks guys.

Only the rear camber bolts are TTY. The fronts are re-usable.

I'm one of those weird track guys that will realign every few track days and/or change a set up for a specific track, so my car has had quite a few alignments. I've found you can get more than one alignment out of the bolts. I probably got about 3 alignments before they started to slip, and on the 4th I replaced the entire set of bolts front and rear. You could probably align this car many times over a few years and never have any problems on the street. My car is just about 100% track only, so it gets a bit more punished especially with hard curb usage.

FYI, ONLY the rears are TTY. Both the camber and toe adjustment bolts are TTY.

Front Bolt torque:
First Pass: 111 lbft
Second Pass: 80-95 degrees

Rear Camber:
First Pass: 85 lb ft
Second Pass 75-90 degrees

Rear Toe:
First Pass 52 lb ft
Second Pass 105 degrees

Part Numbers:
Front Shock Bolts: 11547494
Rear Camber Bolt: 11547215
Rear Toe Bolt: 11611276

Are these the same part numbers for the ZL1 and the ZL1-1LE?

Where did you read this?

Rich Wilhoff at Abel Chevy, a place that may have aligned more ZLEs than any dealer, read details to me from the official GM system info.

According to Rich, the front and rear camber bolts (4), and the front strut bolts (2), are all Torque to Yield, one time use. You torque them to a certain value, then add an additional 1/4 turn.

The correct information should not be this hard to find, in a customer accessible manual or performance supplement for the process and part numbers.

3R just reused them (ended up not needing to mess with the front camber), and said replace them next time.

Ok, I've had 3 alignments now. I'll replace them next time and hope everything holds up this weekend at Laguna Seca.
