Parrish has been here before on a few other builds and he'll figure it out and it will be a killer build. Good luck

I'm staying posted here.
I'm still somewhat on the fence on all the dropin stuff... My builder sides with Jannetty on doing proper machine work when adding rods and pistons. In which case you might as well go with whatever your favorite brand of rod and piston combo would be. I've shown him the Vengeance setup and the cunningham setup but he echos word for word what Ted mentioned. "I wouldn't listen to the marketing hype. High HP builds are what test tolerances" That all being said I see an increasing number of people run them. Excited to see another person push them to their limits.

Fast
Cheap Reliable Pick two. If its fast and cheap it wont be reliable. Cheap and Reliable, it wont be fast. And the one we all live by : Fast and Reliable, it wont be cheap. |

I would love to drop 15k on a 416 long block but I believe that motor would only go maybe 200hp farther than a $4k budget build and I can’t spend $11k on 200hp. Maybe some day when they have an aftermarket 6 bolt block. That being said I will post up any issues I have with my budget build. I will have issues because I won’t stop turning it up until it does. Other than spend a ton of money and have the motor professionally built does anyone have any suggestions on additional work I should consider while it is out?

If you can do the assembly work yourself, maybe purchase a 416 rotating assembly instead of the drop in pistons, file the ring gaps yourself and have it sent out for balancing (check TSP). The block could also be sent out for honing if you don't want to do a hand honing job (done with an electric drill) yourself. Maybe replace the main bearings while you are at it?
For your heads, have you considered using S/S exhaust valves vs stock valves? Upgrade the oil pump?

anyone know what material the stock valves are? i have been looking but cant find the info. right now the valves are the one area i could see spending a few more bucks. i am going to ask Cunningham these questions when i call to order but i need to know what questions to ask. the motor only has 4000 miles on it, shouldn't the stock oil pump be good?

NICE how are you setting piston to wall clearance and ring gaps.

I have all the parts ordered.
Pistons and rods $2400 shipped Cam kit, dod delete kit, vvt lock kit, arp head studs, lt4 head gaskets, new crank bolt, ls3 crank seal $1509 shipped. add in a ring compressor, ball hone and 10 quarts of break in oil for ~$150 Grand total of ~$4050 I will post up some pics once I start working on it. I will probably pull the motor since I have the turbo kit off and the trans out.

I got most of the parts, tore the motor down. put the cam in and vvt lock, everything is cleaned up, pistons and rods just showed up today.
I was worried the lt motor might be more complex than the ls I am used too but there doesn't seem to be much more too it. getting the front cover off and the oil pan is a bitch. they are really glued on there. I did have to buy a ring file. that was $62 from summit. grand total so far $4112 I am going to continue to update this thread. plan is over time to turn it up until it breaks.

I hope you guys are right. one thing I can tell you is I am spending the next 6 months of my car fun money right now. if anything expensive goes wrong it could be down awhile.
I feel like with turbos I should be able to make more power than the blower guys on a given engine set up. I also have a great deal of adjustability on exactly when and exactly how much power to ask for which could help me.

Maybe a dumb question, but what are you doing to address fuel?
