For those who've done 1/2 mile roll race...
A couple of questions-
1. Mph difference from 1/4 mile venue to 1/2 mile roll race? (I've seen 30+mph with a C5 Z06 but curious on these cars) 2. What mph were you seeing at what elevation and temps? Having had a built BBC 67 camaro 15 years ago that could run 9's at the qtr, change tires/wheels and shock setting and go do well at the road course the next day it was an admirable double duty car, though it never met a gas station it didn't like and the kirkey race seats were not the best for a road trip, let alone the 175 miles to the track and the gearing with an auto trans would have maxed out in a 1/2 mile race. This ZL1 may be the king of a triple threat, plenty comfy and knocking down 25mpg with the cruise on 70 mph. Outstanding!!! |

The 6th Gen ZL1 is one of the best triple threat cars you can buy, especially for the money. You can do all the LS Fest events and be competitive, do a cruise, 1/2 mile event, and still drive it to work if you wanted to. That's why I bought mine.

I agree. The former 67 I mentioned that was worked on by a prominate shop in the Phx area told me lots of guys tried to do with their cars, what I did with it (street/drag/track) with not near the success I achieved. Driving it the 350 mile round trip was an excercise in driver uncomfort and fuel bills though.
This thing ROCKS at all of them! Comfort is good, I'll know more on the road course this coming weekend, fuel economy at 70mph/25mpg is outstanding for 650 whp and I was certainly impressed at the 1/2 mile roll race! As an FYI...it appears that a 30 mph gain from 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile is a pretty good approximation. That would put me around 132mph + in the qtr, which I hope to verify in a few weeks. Thanks! |

I think you'd see about 27-28 mph. I think mine would be around 28-30 based on my 1/8 to 1/4 differences that are about 30 mph on the back half of the track. So 5.99@119 compared to my 9.40@147 with best mph of 149 and recently roll raced at a Street Car Takeover at 150. I believe a 1/2 mile would be around 178 to 180 so I think one of the comments of 30 mph is pretty close depending on head winds or tail winds.

My C5 Z06 sporting a 615bhp 416 saw about 30 more mph in the 1/2 vs the 1/4 (127/157) and it was lighter and better aero, but not as much hp so that along with the input from others last week where I was running 162-164 in the 1/2 mile in 93 degrees says at the next couple in Dec and March with cooler temps I should pick up a few mph and if getting to the qtr mile in that time frame I'd guess 130-133 mph.
The old BBC 67 with a 150 shot was 10.0-9.98/135-138 like clock work. |

I did 142mph in the 1/4 and 168 mph in the 1/2.

Does 'roll race' mean that you start at 40~50 mph?

I don't know about the 1/2 mile but Street Car Takeover starts 35 to 40 mph so I'd assume 1/2 mile would be about the same.

When I started running the 1/2 mile roll race years ago with omega it was a roll out to a cone where both cars were supposed to be going 40mph and then let it rip.
By mid afternoon most were pedaling it 20' and then flooring it. This year they announced right from the get go that you could back right up to the end of the pavement on the runway (I'd been doing it this way for years) and either roll it out or a dig from the get go. Not many were paying attention to the 40mph cone. Best way to do it imo. You're really not racing the car next to you, you're just trying to see what mph your car will do in a 1/2 mile. |

Just to beat clear, the 1/2 mile was from a stop. Flagged start with poor traction.

Pro-min-ate. They were pros at eating minutes at the track.
Does that work for you or are you still too new to grasp it? |
