The main reason to get a 2019+ is they supposedly fixed the defective oil pump issues

Now it’s time to try a ZL1.
I actually raced a ZL1 from a 40 mph roll in the Demon about 6 months ago.
I honestly thought it would be a track meet but the ZL1 stayed on my hip until about 110 mph then the 840hp just started to pull away.
I was shocked to be honest they were that fast.
I am not looking to race the ZL1 or add any mods. Just want to drive it.
Now it’s just finding one at the right price and color.
Pretty impressive what they do on a road coarse.
Glad to be here
Greg I am like you. I don’t want to buy new.
I would not mine a 2017.
I see the tail light difference
Yea I assumed you sold it because of the massive inflation. They have a couple brand new ones still for sale and they are like 160k now :3 ZL1 is a nice car IMO, gl in your search

I want used low miles Automatic.
I appreciate the input
I just did the same. I sold my 1000+ HP 2016 Hellcat and bought a 2021 ZL1. I'll just let you know up front, it costs a LOT more to make a LT4 engine quicker than a Hellcat. That being said, I bought mine wanting a sports car instead of a drag strip car, I was ready for a change and the ZL1 feels very properly balanced in all areas. I'm still not going to leave it stock though, LOL, it feels slow compared to the Hellcat.

Other food for thought, 2017-2018 had an amazing blue color, Hyper Blue Metallic. I prefer the rear bumper of the 2017-2018 models compared to the 2019+, however the new tail lights in the 2019+ look amazing at night, but are just so-so during the day. 2019 added a rear view camera in the spoiler but moved to the shark fin antenna in 2020. Normally it would not be an issue unless you wanted to change the spoiler which I did on my 2021. Since mine is in the shark fin antenna, I didn't lose my camera so that's a downside to 2019. The rear view camera is amazing since visibility is not so great through the rear glass using a standard mirror. If I were buying one today knowing what I just told you, I would look for a 2018 if you prefer the earlier bumper or color availability or a 2020+ if you prefer the later style bumper. 2017 and 2019 would be my least preferred years.

Your run against the ZL1 pretty much nailed it... off the hit they are pretty dang close but that extra HP on the top end takes over.

Keep us posted as your search goes on. Not many options to choose from on these. They are pretty much loaded except for PDR and carbon fiber dash piece.

I can imagine a lot of cars will feel slow after 1k hp.

Even compared to a stock Hellcat, the ZL1 feels slow. The Hellcat has a very raw and brutal feel that the ZL1 doesn't. We had two Hellcat's, my wife's was stock, mine was modified.

Mlee I am looking.
Thanks for all the good Information all you guys provided.
I ready for a Chevy. I love SRT don’t get me wrong but the wave kinda hit the beach for me.
The Camaro ZL1 is all I need. I travel from New Orleans to Destin Florida often and it’s on the Freeway. Great driving for this ZL1. Corvette is just not for me. Great cars just not me. I don’t see many ZL1 driving around much, hardly at all to be honest. So really looking forward to this next chapter. I would like to find a low mile 17-18 due to price point.
But if the opportunity comes for a deal on a 19 I will take it.

Good luck Buckwheat, and make sure you post back with your findings once you found your ZL1. I'm especially interested in your impressions, given your history and what you've shared so far.

This!

When I bought my 2018 ZL1 a couple months ago, it only had 4800 miles on it! I agree, I like the bumper and tail lights on the 2017-18's. I actually wanted the 2018 when I was looking and found one with low miles, the color that I wanted and it came with the carbon fiber dash and sunroof! I was looking at them for a little over a year before I found the one that was right for me.
They are out there, buy what you feel is right for you

Someone correct me if I am wrong on this but, can you still reprogram the ecu after 2019 or do you have to replace it for mods?

Just keep 1 thing in mind if you go 17 or 18 and that is the oil pump failure issues. Since you plan to keep it stock, be a good idea to get an additional warranty just in case.

When I saw my ZL1 on Cars.com back in February 2019 I had no intentions to buy a ZL1 but was looking at new 2019 SS 1LEs. My 2017 had 422 miles and no mods for a 2 year old car and the price was good. I built ZL1s on Chevy’s website and had some ideas about pricing with various options and wanted a ZL1 with not many options. The 2017 had the options I was looking for so I did the figures and thinking before jumping into the deal and finally decided to take it 2 weeks later. One person in California really wanted the car but was too late calling the salesman early the next day after I sealed the deal. I did have a trade in though, my 2016 2SS that helped with the final numbers of the ZL1 sale and I did have to drive 4 hours to get it but the trip back home that afternoon was a very memorable experience!

2020+ The A10 trans gets the T93 TCM which is no longer unlockable for custom tuning. The ECU's can still be tuned.
