I live down the street from Thompson Motorsports, their engines are really really good, I would not use TSP any longer their quality has suffered in recent years.

Not sure as of now. I talked to Thompson. They have a 416 forged crank, rods, pistons, arp hardware, oil pump, their stage 3 cam (240 246 0.630 0.630 116.5+6), timing set - rated to 1100 flywheel with a 12 month warranty for $8500. Its a bit of money but hard to beat that 12 month warranty with 950 rwhp. Add heads and Im sitting around $10K.

A factory LT4 with a cam kit for ~$8500

LT1 with drop ins and cam kit for ~$7000

I noticed on Thompson's website, they state that the 12 month warranty is with purchase of Melling high pressure oil pump. Did they give you any details on this pump?

I didn’t ask but yes that oil pump, timing set and cam is part of their warranty.

Have you looked at LME? You can get a LME 377 LT4 shortblock rated up to 1400whp for 8373.00 or a LT1 rated for 1100whp for 7596.00. I believe the 416 is 9538.00 but I really don't see the point of mainly increasing stroke for a FI application. If I was wanting to add cubes then it would have to be a darton sleeved 427 for the larger bore.

it would be interesting to have more info on that pump. I'm sure you're aware of all of the failures on OEM pumps. I know that Melling supplies the OE variable pressure pump. There are no other off the shelf pumps available to my knowledge. Given that Thompson refers to this pump as a High Pressure pump, I'm guessing they may be modifying stockers to defeat the variable volume/pressure functionality, and in doing so possibly mitigating the outer gear cracking issues that have plagued a not-insignificant number of cars.

I am part of the club also of broken stock exhaust valve on stg2 ported head. I should have upgraded but didnt think 600hp n/a was gonna kill a 1K hp rated engine..

Just ordered a new block, Mahle power pack pistons, callies crank, and will looking into rods

These destroyed engine from dropped valves is scaring me since I didn't touch my heads except springs, pushrods and a trunion kit.

This. If/when my setup dies, LME is definitely how I'm going. Feel like they were able to figure out the LT shortcomings very early in the game.
