Backup Camera/ visibility issues.

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or might could point me in the right direction. The car is a 2021 ZL1. The issue with the backup camera is at night with little to no light it's showing up on the screen very fuzzy (whole screen) and very dark shadowy at the top edges. It picks up things around it but it's very very hard to see other cars around me in the dark or with little to no light. In the day time it's perfect the dealership can't produce the problem I'm having with the background I have.

Now my girlfriend has a 2019 2SS and the visibility is a night and day difference at night time/ little to low light on screen. Her lighting is perfect and you can see everything when looking at her screen.

I do need to try 2 more things. I haven't tried the PDR yet and then I'm going to try and turn up the interior lights and see if that might work out but I don't think that's going to help with the fuzzyness. Any help with be greatly appreciated.

Replacing the pathetic halogen reverse light bulbs with high performance LED made a huge difference on my 2SS. Your girlfriend might have done the same.

Not sure what your car comes with, of course this doesn't apply if it's all-LED already, but if not, try my advice, it's literally going to be light and day.

Thanks I may have to do that. We checked my girlfriend's and it has the Halogen reverse bulbs and Halogens at the plate. Thanks for your help and response. I'll look into it.

I added the LEDs to the plate light and reverse light and still can't hardly see what's around me. I would say it may have improved visibility by like 3% and that's because of the glare from the lights hits off the cars.

I was perfectly happy with the backup camera at night in my 2017 turbo (with technology package that included the higher spec 8" screen).

The backup camera in my 2020 2SS 1LE at night is pretty terrible. It's overly boosted, excessively noisy, and overly blocky with digital artifacts. The only other 2020 Camaro I've been at night was just as bad.

I wonder if the camera changed somewhere between MY2017 and MY2020 production or the cameras come from multiple suppliers and some are better than others?

The back up camera in my 2018 RS is by far the worse camera I have ever had. Always looks hazy, not clear. Dealer said it is normal, which sucks! My 14 Silverado had a great camera. Are there any aftermarket cameras out there that can improve this issue?

Like most things in life I think it's mostly a matter of opinion. Maybe the people who say it's great have never experienced a truly good backup camera. Who knows. For me I think it's definitely more on the crappy side compared to other vehicles. I did the whole LED thing, and it made no noticeable improvement. On a side note my girls 2019 Accord had one of the best backup cameras I've ever experienced. Better than some expensive luxury vehicles even

The backup camera on my 2020 Ram 1500 is incredible. So so much better than my Camaro’s. Tech has improved greatly in 4 years.

My 20 SS 1LE’s back up camera sucks. It’s not crisp at all. Now my wife’s 2020 Jeep Wranglers is fantastic. Super clear image.

Not that much, the dramatic difference is more likely to be due to GM's penny pinching.

I'm okay with the backup camera on my 2018. It isn't particularly great, but does show everything clearly, isn't washed out or overly discolored at night, and then again I don't try to record 4K videos with it

Make sure you don't have a leak in the seal on the camera. The dealer can do a moisture test, which they did with my last 2 cameras. I'm on my third one. The first 2 had water trapped on the inside of the dust lens which would make a blurry spot in the middle of the screen, unless it had been warm and dry for a while.

I work in a police/Fed upfitter shop. There are a ton of aftermarket cameras available, and installs look relatively simple. Definitely compare cameras, and make sure that they will fit, and you should be good.
