Buying 2016 Camaro 2SS - Super Low Miles - Questions
Hey guys and gals,
I am looking to join the Camaro6 family by buying a 2016 Convertible Camaro 2SS with super low miles on it in the next few days and I have a few questions that I can not seem to find direct answers for in forums searches. 1. Does the Dual Exhaust Upgrade add the beefier sound with the Sport/Track options or does it add the quieter Stealth mode to the car? In other words, would a Camaro *without* the upgrade sound stealthy or loud (or somewhere in between)? If it is just loud all the time (as if it had the upgrade and was in Track mode), I am ok with that. 2. This car only has about 600 miles on it. It has done a lot of sitting around in other words (supposedly in a garage). What do I need to consider when buying a car like this? I am going to have it run through a 127 point GM inspection before buying it, but what might they not catch? BTW: I will have about 6 months of warranty left on this car once I purchase it. I have been looking through the TSB's and I am hoping that some of these things such as the Transmission Shudder/Bad Fluid/Torque Converter issue could be resolved under my warranty. Many Thanks, Tex Last edited by Tex2SS; 03-20-2019 at 09:17 AM. |

Welcome to the club! For #1 I think its more sporty but not as throaty as the dual mode can be. Stealth can be nice for start ups where you don't want to wake the neighborhood. I leave mine in sport. You should be able to tell in a test drive if there is anything wrong with it. Low mileage finds are nice, got mine with 6,000 on it.

1. The dual mode exhaust adds the deeper tone because the outer tips bypass the muffler.
2. 600 miles isn't typically enough for the car to exhibit the transmission shudder problem but it should be covered by the powertrain warranty. Maybe discuss with the service manager of you local Chevy dealer. If you are concerned then consider buying an extended GM warranty through any Chevy dealer before the 3/36 expires. - Check the tires for flat spots if the car has been sitting that long. - Pull a full service record from a dealer to check for issues and recalls that the seller may have neglected to mention. - Plan to have the oil and filter changed (due to age rather than mileage) unless the seller has evidence of a recent oil change. - Ask the seller for any receipts they have to verify service intervals were followed while they owned the car. You may be required to produce evidence that the car was properly maintained in order to purchase the extended warranty and/or make a serious warranty claim. |

Thanks for the quick responses guys.
The seller is going to get the oil changed tomorrow since it has never been changed. The car has basically been sitting and has never had any maintenance done on it according to the finance manager that I spoke with at my local GM dealer. He pulled the full service record for me as you suggested and says that it pretty much rolled off the lot and never came back to a dealer for any reason. The seller says that the car was driven every once in a while to his work and back to keep it running and to keep the battery charged and such, but you never know right. I did not feel any tire issues on the test drive, but it is hard to tell since the highway that we used is a mess anyway. Lol |

Must have been just a collector if it only has 600 miles on it.
How much was he asking for? |

I would see if the previous owner has a supermodel for a wife and if so ask to buy her as well, since she's likely never been driven either.

So there is no record of the engine oil having been changed in the last 2 1/2 years?
That would make me uncomfortable. Owners manual says "The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year.."

If they are like me they change their own oil so their may not be a recored. My car only has 800 miles on it and I don't look at as a collector car, it's just a weekend toy or a car my wife and I enjoy taking to car shows. While GM recommends changing the oil every year oil is not going to go bad within 6 months or so if the car is just stored out of the weather.. I would not be concerned about that.

@TheWiseWolf
It was a toy for this guy along with his SlingShot, but he unfortunately did not get to play with them much since he became ill right after buying them and then passed away. :( His wife is selling this car now a year or so after he passed. She is asking $34,999 for it, but that seems a bit high to me even though it has MRC and NPP. You better not go buy it out from under me. :P @ZED SLED Have not seen the wife yet. I've been working with the guy's brother. lol @Memphis SS The brother told me that the oil has indeed not ever been changed. He is doing that tomorrow when he takes it in for the GM inspection. |

The kinds of things that I am worried about are tires, battery, seals, hoses, etc. Hopefully most of that will get tested by GM during the inspection. Not sure how well they can really test for dry seals and dry hoses and such though.
Not sure if I should have all of the fluids flushed and filled or not also. I talked to a GM dealer about that and they are of course not cheap to do. Maybe I can tell the GM dealer that I have the transmission shudder and get a flush and fill under warranty for that. lol |

You’re looking for problems.
Change the oil and drive. Take care of any problems that may arise. This car was a garage queen, not sitting in a dirty lot for years.
