The Zl1 imho is not overkill, it is amazing car and there will be no regrets as long as you can afford it. If you can’t, I test drove the 2SS and it’s also a sweet ride. For me, the power and fun of the LT4 is tough to beat.

Good luck, either way a manual convertible is a hell of a good time

Got for it! NPP and Mag Ride are worth every penny! I prefer the A10 tranny. The shifting, like the NPP, becomes much more aggressive as you switch modes...mmmmwwwahahaha!

I bought a Tesla Model 3 Performance, and although its more than a second faster 0-60, really miss the drop top, M6, V-8, ventilated seats, MRC, etc. . . .

As Ah-nald says, I'll be bahk . .

Ember:

Good luck with the hunt! I was shopping for either 2SS vert with the right options/colors (very hard to find) and wound up with a ZL1, which of course had all the options and 200 more HP.

Here's some thoughts:
  • Mag Ride: Yes, must, it is amazing how supple it is when driving normally, but firms up and stays flat when you are in the twisties. Better than my E93 M3 and AMG C63 suspensions.
  • 2SS: Yes, must, the heated/cooled seats, heated wheel, better trim, disco lights, HUD - all well worth it.
  • MPP exhaust: Optional, but it is nice to have control over the volume.
  • Recaro seats: Yes, I really wanted these, and there are so few 2SSs with this option.
  • Hot Wheels Edition: If you see a 6 speed vert, DROP EVERYTHING AND BUY THIS!

Honestly, the Transformers Edition in Rally Yellow would be an interesting model to me, but they are couple only. So, no special editions.

No interest in the Recaro seats. A dealer near me has two or three on his lot that are 'vert and manual with them. No thanks. Oddly, he only orders those seats in combo with mag ride. Can't get them separate from inventory. He also sells at list and insists that's the best he can do.

My hunt has ended. No used 'vert in my future.

2017 2SS

I just bought a 2017 SS Convertible with only 17.000 miles. It is in excellent shape. Does not have Magnetic Ride nor NPP but not sure why I would need them for a DD, non-tracked car. I put Borla Type S axle back on it an love the sound. My other toy is a 2006 BMW Z4M roadster which obviously corners tighter than the SS but I am impressed with the suspension on my car. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing with the Magnetic Ride but good luck in your search. There are a lot of low mileage SS on Autotrader.

Compared to Magnetic ride control- I’ll can tell you for certain that the non MRC ride is stiffer, the steering feel has more feedback , but you’ll definitely know when you hit a railroad crossing. The MRC is a bit soft for me, although outstanding at soaking up bumps, while keeping control. Having sports cars all my life, I’m used to and almost expect a little suspension drama from an otherwise well handling car.

Good luck with your new car!!

I spent a good couple of weeks on Autotrader looking for what I wanted. Many were nice, and there were some decent prices. But, in the end, I opted for a new one that was really close to what I was looking for. I got everything on my list except NPP but will address that with an aftermarket system of some sort in the near future. I'm looking forward to driving a sport/muscle car with Magnetic Ride specifically for how it should behave if it were to be a DD.

I pick mine up this weekend and hope to be able to drive it by August (DMV is closed!)... lol

Nice! Can't wait for pics.

As far as NPP goes, I love how it's integrated and controllable for stealth and track. However, if you want simply a loud and proud car most of the time, I can see how NPP isn't necessary really.

I really don't want the "loud all the time" sort of thing. And I definitely want to be able to leave and return at off hours without disturbing the neighbors (so, stealth mode would be appealing).

I'm going to drive it for a bit to get a sense of how the exhaust changes under different levels of throttle and such. Once I'm past the break-in period for mileage, I'll start to look around for options.

One thing I'm going to want as part of an exhaust swap is quad tips, and I know that's going to require changing out some of the rear valance/diffuser parts. If I can actually find a quad-tip system that isn't designed for use with the NPP system (many of them say they work without NPP, but it appears that the outer tips are "always open" as there's no valve in there), then I'll pursue that avenue. Worst case would be to rig up a control that I could put on the dash or something that would allow me to shut down the outer tips for a "stealth mode" when I need it and leave it open otherwise. I just don't want the open mode sound to be obnoxious.

Congrats! So what are the details on your new vert? Model? Color?

How I found my used vert

My first post here, long overdue, so hopefully it comes out correctly.

I was fortunate enough to buy my used vert from JBinSD last December. In homage to him, I've chosen my user name as PHinLA.

I was blessed to find a top notch guy who had great taste in his vehicle selections and took impeccable care of the car.

I've been a voyeur on the form since it's inception so I was very happy to become an official member of the club.

JBinSD is the Becky D of used car sellers, couldn't have asked for anyone nicer to deal with.

My first three new cars were Camaro's 90, 94 and 96. Very happy to be back in one after a 23 year drought.

Less than 24 hours. Work day coming to an end. Just loaded all of the wooden blocks and planks I'll need for trailering. Working on getting the insurance paperwork settled.

Officially starting to get a little excited.
