I've seen people with acidic skin destroy steering wheel leather before
That looks like a patch of leather that should not have made it to the process

I don't wear a ring, belt buckle, knife, gun or anything that can rub. I also don't drive with my hand in the lower left corner of the wheel. They were starting to make me feel like I did something and was trying to get away with it. I know its not normal, but the service manager gave a 5 second look and said it was normal. Standard answer I guess. The service writer called me and said they would change it out for $261.

That's done by someone, not wear, it's from dragging the wheel across something like in your pocket or belt buckle etc etc

Was the tech who worked on it some big fat guy? That looks like someone wearing jeans dragging their thigh/hip/belly against the steering wheel while trying to get in the car. It's definitely not normal hand wear and tear.

Definitely not normal. That looks intentional.

I think it would have had to happen many times for it to be only wear, the OP would probably know if he's hitting it on entry/exit. My vote is bad leather.
Probably lots of used wheels in good shape out there if they won't help.

Its damage, I do not touch the wheel getting out and it is not always in the same position when I park.
