less than 10k mi and tires are dead

Is that normal?

17 SS running with original tires from dealership. I am extremely conservative with the gas pedal. I may have taken some decent turns before but it just doesn't seem right that the wear on my tires have taken its toll.
not even at 10k mi and tire store said they're almost no longer legal

I've got over 15k on my SS tires, with some aggressive driving mixed in, no problems with treadwear. Did you buy your car used?

I'd say you are on the lower end of the spectrum, but I have seen worse, and better.

From what I've read, 15k seems to be typical, with some seeing as much as 20-30k. I've also seen some people report 5k-8k.

It depends on the driver and how much their throttle plate smells like feet.

Mine were getting slippery by 9.5k or so. Not a single burnout but a few trips on the tail of the dragon and the winding East TN roads did a number on them in short order. Replaced at a little over 10.

I had Pirelli P Zero on my 14 GT. They wore out within 12k, and I sent a letter to Pirelli.

They basically told me to pound sand. Apparently, that's the lifespan of "performance" tires, just about 10-15k is what they made mention to.

Poor alignment can lead to accelerated tire wear.. as can soft tire compounds.

You have an LT though...you will get more mileage than the SS guys.

Get a second opinion on the tread wear.

2016 LT here bought in April 2016 and at 43k miles and I think I'm still good on treadwear. Haven't measured but looks like a solid 30-40% except on the edges. I'm hoping to make them last till the end of this year.

How much life you get out of a set of tires depends on a number of factors, some of which have been pointed out.

One thing that's less obvious is the quality of the rubber used when the tires were made. Rubber can vary significantly in quality from batch to batch, so while the design of the tire and grade of rubber can significantly affect tread life, the batch of rubber used throws in a big wild card.

I don't think tires on a new car come with any sort of warranty, but virtually all new aftermarket tires do regardless of whether you purchase a separate road hazard warranty (which is worthless as far as tread life goes anyway). This typically works on a pro-rated basis. So let's say the tires are rated at 30K miles and at 15K the tread depth is 3/32. The manufacturer will pro-rate them at 50% which means you get that much credit towards a new set of tires. Many of the manufacturers' warranties work that way, but you need to verify this at the time of purchase.

14k Miles right now, I’d say I have around 50% tread left. Plenty of aggressive driving mixed in.

Honestly the staggered summer tires on the SS is the main reason I am on my 3rd LT. Living in the northeast and knowing the summer tires are not made to run under 40 degrees, along with the fact that these expensive tires can't be rotated front to rear and the softer rubber has a much shorter average life span. In the past while living in Florida I left my summer performance tires on year round, and just the very few cold days we had there cracked the tread making the tires unsafe. I use my cars as daily drivers so that plays a huge role in my decision also...
