They did... It's the LF4 in the ATS-V.

Yeah, a powerplant that's much more expensive than the LT1 yet it makes the same power. Still think they made a mistake putting that instead of the LT1 into the ATS-V.

Even thought there is no advertised power increase, I was really hoping that the A10 would be made available with the base engines like Ford did with the Mustang refresh. Ford discontinued their V6 in the Mustang in 2017 for good reason. The 3.6 in the Camaro is far superior to what was in Mustang. The Ecoboist turbo in the Mustang actually puts out 310 HP which is more HP than their discontinued V6 and more than Camaros 2.0 turbo at 275 HP. The way the V6 in the Camaro sounds and it's silky smoothness alone, to me is worth the added $1500 cost of admission. Punch this V6 and you will quickly see that you just can't get these sweet sounds from any turbo4 on the planet, leaving some to question if a 4 cylinder engine belongs in this application at all. Not to mention the advanced fuel management system in the V6 that allows the engine to run in V4 mode when not needing the 335 HP all while delivering excellent fuel economy on 87 octane fuel. This engine was picked as one of Wards magazines 10 best engines for these reasons and for it's advanced technologies. I don't think there is an engine manufactured today, by any manufacture, that can deliver this level of 335 HP performance, while also delivering the MPG's it is capable of on 87 octane fuel....

Have driven my 335 hp 2016 manual 1LT camaro for 8100 miles, there is no weakness in the torque department at all. Cannot vouch for the 8 speed auto though, that trans wants to upshift way to early and that could make the car feel weak.. I also have a 2015 stingray 7 speed manual which is torque rich, and the Camaro is still a very enjoyable drive and 300 lbs lighter than the V6 5th gen

Correct in every way. My manual 2016 1LT lightweight with a steady diet of 93 octane gets 32mpg on the hi way with the a/c on. By running constant 93 octane , the engine spends all its time running in the highest timing tables because it will not sense spark knock . Great horsepower, torque and gas mileage.

As a commuter car the V6 and Camaro is awesome. As a performance or drag car compared to the SS or other V8 cars....well there is no comparison. If you want that kind of torque and performance you just get the V8 period, I would not even consider a 4 or a 6.

But for a commuter to have 0-60 in 5.1, great handling, burn regular gas and get 30 MPG, I'll take that over any other commuter econo box that does 0-60 in 7 or 8 and is just another appliance.

Everything is so relative. I'm old enough to remember when high performance big engine cars were barely getting into the 5's and 14's in 0-60 and the 1/4 mile. Time sure marches on.

Coincidentally those were the exact time specs for the last of the LS1 350-equipped F-body Camaro Z28 and Firebird Formula/TA from 2002.

What was blistering performance 16 years ago is simply nice for a commuter car today

Although fuel economy really hasn't improved that much. The LS1 with the old 4 speed automatic routinely got 30+ on the highway, same as the LT1 with the 8 speed today, and I don't see much more out of the V6 8 speed auto combo either.

If you had 2.73, the optional 3.23 didn't fare as well.

But otherwise I agree. It's actually more impressive to get 30 mpg from a 346cid eight cylinder motor than today's V6

Eh I dunno about that.

I had a 2001 LS1 Z28 when they weren't even a decade old and although I did get 30 MPG on the highway, it wasn't consistantly getting that. Averaged around 27 - 29 on the highway. My 1LT V6 got that on the STREET. On the highway I was averaging over 35 MPG in my 1LT V6 with a few freak runs of up to 50 MPG no exaggeration.

Maybe it’s the fact that Chevrolet’s own build configuration site has both figures. Lol!
