That's a good question. I'm not sure exactly why....I imagine something to do with racing safety (don't want an airbag and dust in your face at 100mph on the Nurburgring)...but I do know that the prototypes don't deploy the airbags.

That's why they drive in suits, racing seats, a full harness, helmet, and hans device...

Would the fact that the impact was not a frontal hit have anything to do with it?

Or, is it as you said - they are in full safety gear and the airbags are either not even present in the car or, are not activated?

The prototype ZL1s we took around Spring Mountain had no airbag function, as well...that's why they strapped us into a helmet with a hans device, 5-point harness, and Sparco seats.

I think it might be their policy for track testing.

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense.

Even in defeat, that car is BAD!! I'm actually very reluctant to give props to cars with outrageous Aero but this car just looks beautiful! I want one!!

Should it have locked up that badly? I'm thinking the ABS and stability control calibration might not yet be finalized.

Or they were testing some sort of all systems off track mode?

Not sure if it was a joke but the video description says the car was a twin turbo v6.
