Why Didn’t and Doesn’t Chevy NA Advertise the Camaro?

Why does Chevy for North America do almost nothing?

I was in Europe a few weeks back and saw all kinds of Camaro ads. If you look at Chevy Europes social media pages, they have Corvette and Camaro all over. I see almost ZERO ads from Chevy NA for the Camaro.

Cross city lines and Ford has all kinds of ads for the Mustang...

I totally understand Camaro is not the focus seller in NA, but it looks like they aren’t even trying!

They're waiting for it to win a JD Powers award so they can discuss it with a few people sitting at a table on the freeway.

haha

I don't think they need to have a focused campaign for the Camaro, but I do think once they get away from those god awful real people ads, they should at least feature the Camaro in some of the ads.

The other day I saw a dodge ad, it featured the Challenger, Charger and SRT Durango just blasting around, at the end of the ad was a lease special for a Journey.

Maybe because in America most people have families and can't afford the Camaro/Corvette so why spend the money on advertising on a sports car when they can sell an SUV or truck? I also read once that high end cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini don't do ads because the car "sells itself" as they say.

Cheers,

Sorry, guys. Just had a “WTF” moment opening instagram during lunch and being greeted by a Chevy Europe ad/post of the Camaro. Then remembering the cool ad they had on Halloween and all the ads I remembered in Europe:

Oh, I get that. But look at Camaro sales...

Ford out advertises and out sells with the Mustang even though their #1 and #2 focus is and has been F150.

the Corvette is in a different category from the Camaro in terms of sales and advertising strategy.
also the 5thgen Camaro found it's way into a lot of tv shows and movies, and there doesn't seem to be the effort to do the same with the 6.

They can do a funny ad for Cadillac, ...

but can't do ANY ad for Camaro. A bold Camaro ad would be cool just to be seeing your car in action on TV...Chevy can't figure it out yet.

Lol yes it is....but I sure enjoy watching them burn rubber and race those Chargers & Challengers! I wish Chevy would do just ONE decent commercial for the Camaro.

This relates back to the culture at GM. When the 4th gen ended production, lack of continued advertisement was a major criticism to the death of the cars. GM response then and I am sure as is now is that they have a set budget for advertising in North America and focus on high volume sales vehicles in competitive market classes, trucks, cross overs etc. In Europe it would seem as a cultural play than anything, here you have a cool American product that can be used to drum up attention to the brand (GM/Chevrolet) in terms of recognition and possibly changing attitudes.
