Extended warranty questionshe

Hey folks, just had a $700 repair at my local Chevy dealer, 2017 with 30k, problem was part of the fuel management system, and was not covered by the 5 year 50k factory warranty, what do you think of purchasing the factory ext. coverage? I have never purchased one before and am not so sure I want one now!!! Your thoughts please.

I just bought one for my 2018 with 35,000 miles. Got a good deal on it, plan on keeping the car for a while, and am not doing any real mods. All said and done I feel it was right for me. Another thing to note is that GM no longer underwrites any extended warranty. Some are better than others, and some are affiliated with GM, but it is underwritten by a 3rd party. I found that interesting

GM doesn’t sell their own factory warranty anymore? That’s interesting, I thought all manufacturers had their own extended warranty.

That's correct. Any extended warranty is 3rd party now. I even talked to GM directly

I was also told the only true GM extended warranty that you can purchase is only available when purchasing the car itself. And that one is only like 5/60,000 bumper to bumper or something along those lines. Anything other than that is 3rd party. Real question is how good are these GM affiliated ones that are underitten by a 3rd party. Hopefully I'll never have to find out lol

Define "fuel management system".

Do you have mods?

If not, it should have been covered under the federal emissions warranty.

Back in the day Corvetteforum members raved about the prices for the GMPP

From this dealer.... https://www.dennymenholt.com/

These guys are reasonable https://www.macmulkin.net/corvette-inventory

If I keep mine past the 3/36 I will most definitely get the GMPP

Part of the system that changes it from v8 mode to 4 cyl mode, was sticking open, set engine code, talked to warranty claim mgr, looked up part number came back as 3-36 coverage, talked to set mgr and he gave ma a $200 discount. So left with a $500 bill. Gm would not help because I had never had oil changes at dealer, only do goodwill for regular customers of service dept, so my only question is should I put a range component to stop it from ever shifting to 4 cyl. Mode and possibly prevent future issues with this system? Thanks everyone for your thoughts, topkat

I recently bought a range device, and I will never go back. The car is much more enjoyable to drive, and gas mileage is maybe 1-2 mpgs at best

Did you buy the original range brand, I see there is several models out there for less price and same warranty coverage, I guess I’ll go ahead and get one also.

Anything related to AFM -should- be tied to emissions and other items that I would expect to be covered as part of the longer-term warranty that covers things like the catalytic converter. No? I'd be reaching out to GM about this and getting them involved, maybe even see if you could find an attorney that understands the details around this better to see what their take is. No, they won't take your case because it isn't worth anything. But, if they give you anything solid about why you should have been covered, a simple "my attorney has reviewed this and says that this should have been covered by "X" warranty" might get things squared away.
