Next Car Decision - Post 2SS Vert Life?
Getting the itch to move on from my 17' 2SS Vert.
Has anyone driven the ZL1 & SS verts that can provide some input? Worth it!? Also looking at another year out but a C8 Z51 2LT Vert. I could also keep the 2SS 17' and was considering a Scatpack Challenger. Fun options. Open to any discussions, or other cars < 90k with a tradein or around 50k no tradein. Looking forward to the discussion! Cheers! |

Interesting post and great timing as I am considering the same. My '19 2SS vert only has 6500km (4000mi) and I have the itch to move on. I did test drive the ZL1 last summer and I didn't get a complete "wow factor" from it. Sure it has a couple hundred more HP, but the ride was very similar to the 2SS. I haven't gotten to drive a C8 yet but I have sat in one and immediately you get a totally different feel for the car and that wasn't the vert I sat in. Best car I have driven that always puts a smile on my face is the Porsche 911 Turbo (998). Obviously older but you may be able to pick one up in the price range you mentioned. Vehicle is already tuned and you really don't need to spend money modding the vehicle as it is a superb piece of German Engineering. Again, to each their own but just my thoughts. Good luck!

Thanks for the response! It's tough to consider the ZL1 upgrade, cause finding one to test drive (esp. a convertible) is impossible!
I'm having to go off of Raiti's Rides vids and others haha - to get a feel for the ZL1 and C8. So tough to make a call like that virtually. Both those cars are about impossible to get behind the wheel to test drive. I'm also trying to weigh whether my love for drop tops is gettin in the way too much, while I'd love to consider a GT500 or a high-end Hellcat Variant. I've never driven a Porche, but I know I'd love it! Thanks for the suggestion there. Personally, I'd get the new 911 Turbo but it's way out of my price range. |

I test drove both the ZL1 and 2SS verts prior to purchase. Guess which one met my driving experience needs. 4 years later it still does. Now say it with me: SIX HUNDRED FIFTY HORSEPOWER CONVERTIBLE! |

Gunkk - Thanks for chiming in!
Any comparison details you can expand on from when you drove the two? Thoughts on the C8 Vert? I actually started out looking at the C7 vert in 17' when I ultimately bought the 2SS, but didn't fit in it too well. Camaro wasn't even on the radar. The instant I sat in the Camaro, it was so comfortable ... never looked back. I did get a chance to sit in the C8, and it's a big improvement but still pretty snug. I do like the increased head room and seating width, but it's still about 2/3 the comfort the pony cars offer at 6'-4" 250 . I'd say the C7 was not even an option for me the instant I sat in it. I'd add I also test drove the Stang GT vert when I was shopping in 17'. The SS Vert just crushed it imo across the board. Way tighter handling, less corner roll, better transmission and exhaust sound, seemingly better gearing and response. I think the 18' GT revision addressed a lot of that, but never drove the refresh. I know I still picked the right car anyway |

I drove the ZL1 and 2SS as well as the 2019 C7. I didn't want to spend the money to get the top end C7 so the magnetic ride of the Camaros took out the C7 out of the running. I do love the C8's looks! In the end, the 2SS and ZL1 were extremely close, but the ZL1 vert is speed limited to the same as the 2SS and I didn't think it was worth the price different.

Have you considered a C6 ZR1, Z06, or GS?
The C6 ZR1 is a beast of a car. Similar power to the ZL1 but significantly less weight. Some also came with carbon/ceramic brakes. C6 Z06 is another option if you wanted a beast of a car with that was naturally aspirated. C6 GS is also a nice option. LS3 power, widebody styling, removable top. And you may fit better in the C6. Honestly, beyond what you already mentioned (ZL1, Scatpack), there's not really much of anything close to what you already have unless you go up significantly in price. |

Sold our c8 z51 HTC and got a Zl1 M6 vert instead. Wife like it much better.
I still think a C7 ZR1 M7 vert would be awesome. D. |

Personally I am not a big fan of vert Corvettes, since they are true sports cars I prefer a coupe. Same goes for a 911. But a true roadster like a Z4M I like. Personal preference.
Anyway - I love my 2016 SS vert - I thought about adding 1LE seats, but it seems like maybe more hassle than it's worth. I could maybe see upgrading the covers to some nice alcantara / leather 2-tone, but even that I haven't bothered with. I did change wheels to 19x10.5's with 295 PSS tires, square - that made a big difference in grip. I also bought the spring and shock factory lowering kit which tightens things up and drops the car .75" which puts it about the same as a 1LE. I also added a kick-ass stereo. So maybe there are a few tweaks you can make to your car to make it continue to work for you. Honestly the only upgrade is going to be a C7 or a 997 or 991 Porsche, but prices are through the roof on those right now and then you step up into P-car maintenance and repair bills which can be painful. I've owned a few and several Corvettes. But the SS is a keeper for me - at least for now. Original owner and I've had it for 5 years now. |
