Used Camaro Values

Does anybody know how the opening of the plant in October will affect used Camaro values? I'm assuming as soon as volumes of new Camaros start hitting dealer lots the high used price bubble will pop, but by how much? I'm thinking of trading for a car with AWD since I may be moving up north for a job in the near future (hopefully, at least) and I'm not convinced my car could handle even an inch of snow or ice.

My Camaro gets around in the snow just fine. good set of all season tires and use the nannies and I have no problem getting around. Snow mode really detunes and you would have a real hard time spinning the tires, I have a M6 and have never had an issue getting around. Ice is Ice, you can either drive on it or not.

Get winter tires and you should be mostly fine. The main limiting factor will be the Camaro's ground clearance. But an inch of snow is fine.

With that being said, also consider the geography of wherever you're moving to. If the area is hilly/mountainous then the car can struggle going up hill from a dead stop, even with winter tires. May want to add some sandbags to the trunk as well. But if you're mostly gonna drive on flat land this shouldn't be a problem.

The bubble is already starting to pop. This spring I checked Vroom and then I just checked it again last week. About $5k difference in their offer in that time period. If you are going to sell/trade it, I'd do it now.

I agree I think its already started to drop. The new ones I have seen drop are priced insane, but it is all about supply and demand. Plus we are coming into fall / winter so the pony type cars are almost done for the year. At least for us up here in the soon to be great white north.

KBB still shows trade-in is around $48,000 for my car, which is only a drop of about $1,000 from last month. Not sure which is more reliable though, but for all of the cars I've traded in previously KBB has been pretty accurate.

My car actually went up over $27k this week, which is the highest its been for a month. Every car is different and each area will have its ups and downs. Do I think the bubble is about to burst? NO. All car manufactures are still having chip and part shortages for at least 6 months, probably more, and so used cars are still filling that void.

About 3 weeks ago when my ordered 2021 2SS 1LE showed up, my dealer gave me $7000 for my 2019 Grand Sport C7 than I paid for it. Market is still strong but has maxed out. Prices will start to even out.

I've been actively/serious looking since April. I have sold my STI on Vroom so I'm on that and Carvana daily looking at camaro and mustang prices. I feel those are the best way to gauge the market. I also use Cargur's price track.

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-...et-Camaro-d606

Prices are going down but only by a few K. Especially 5th gen's. Still, some 5th gen 1le's are 36k+. People are still buying them!

Mustang prices are really dropping. They used to post for 40k+, now a few are below 35. However, they sell quick.

Prices are still going to be strong for used for the time being. The new car market won’t look normal for at least a year and that might be optimistic!

Yep, slowly the air is being let out of the overpriced used car balloon. Good! Even though many of us are looking to go new or ordered new, high prices effect everything so more reasonable used car prices end up good for everything.

Also, if any of have deals that fall through it will be important to have a solid used market to pick from if that ends up being an option.

I think any used price drop is due to more awareness of the chip situation. People are removing themselves from the market, anticipating the chip shortage will eventually end. I know i'm always browsing cars... but not this last 1/2 year or so.

We've already seen a peak and a pullback from it in terms of values. Will the values hold? Drop further? Go up again? Ah, to have a crystal ball...

Specific markets / areas and specific vehicles within those markets will (as always) drive the value. Part of the roller coaster has to do with weather and timing. Right now, used values are likely to hold or drop slightly because they're "another year older" at this point. We could see the values tick back upwards as we get into Feb/Mar of next year if inventory levels are still low and dealers continue to insist on ridiculous ADM amounts.

To directly answer your question, no one actually knows the answer.

I'm up the road from you and I see used C7s more in the lots lately. Except they're simply not moving at all. I see the same ones sitting for weeks. Two dealers up the road have a few C6s and C7s. Then again usually their prices are too high at these two dealers. The one Chevy dealer many of the locals don't like it ever since it was bought out and wont go there. I know I wouldn't buy a car from them.

I remember about 4 months ago I drove by it. This chevy dealer had a couple C7s sitting out front. Guy got out of his car to look at it and I could see him laughing after looking at the pricing and hopping back into his car. Same vetts still sitting out front.
