The Rotofab Dry is worth a real 5 RWHP. Plus it sounds great. I do not think just changing thr filter will do anything.

But I have read you can get about the same hacking up the stock box. It actually flows pretty well for stock. GM did not leave much room to grow in the tune or with intake flow for us to fool with.

I already removed baffles inside the stock box and opened up the front of the box down low to pull in cool air just below the factory opening. Maybe by adding a high flow filter element it may complement that mod, Thanks Fraxum.

Careful. Things like baffles, shape of openings, and turning vanes may be there to prevent turbulence and encourage laminar flow.

this is 100% true. i cut just the triangle portion, facing the front of the car, out of the lower air box and my car lost 6 mph. completely stock at the time.

Just a heads up... You are talking to the same guy that in the strut tower braces thread (Post #27), said he removed his braces and said that they are NOT needed...! You're trying to reason with someone who knows more then the GM engineers. Just an fyi...

I disagree with removing air guides, baffles etc., too, but I also have to defend lt4camaro's strut tower brace argument for the most part, it is indeed unnecessary except on V8 vert models. Here's what the chief engineer said about it.

That's fine... It's his car, he can do what he wants... I'll keep them on. and will never buy a used car from lt4camaro if I ever see he has one for sale... I just think it's ironic that someone whos smart enough to go about removing the shock tower braces and removing the air guides, baffles, etc... needs to ask for opinions on air filters...

That is referring to there not being a need for the tower-to-tower brace, which they still sell as an add-on option. The braces that were removed and should not have been are the "rearward-facing v-braces" mentioned about halfway through that comment.

Ouch, you're right. I would never even think about cutting up my chassis like that, I thought it must have been the optional strut tower brace...

I've never really looked into it, but there is no way of removing these right? Without cutting of course which I guess is what someone did. It would be nice if you could remove them for easier access to things when working on stuff though especially in the corners of the engine.
