2018 Mustang GT has more horsepower than Camaro SS

And now a similarly equipped Mustang costs more than a 2ss.

I'm not a fanboy, so I embrace the Camaro, Challenger, Mustang & Firebird (), but I must admit the 2018 front end is the ugliest in Mustang history.

I'm interested to see the 2019 Camaro refresh and ultimately, the 7th Gen. IMHO, GM screwed the pooch with the 6th Gen (just look at the abysmal sales). Go through the Camaro lineage and compare each Gen side-by-side. Each generation has been a complete departure from the prior model. The 6th Gen's aesthetics are simply too similar to the 5th. It looks like more of a refresh than a completely new model. Time will tell...

We should welcome this. We all get better products when there's competition.

I don't quite understand why the 6th gen isn't doing well honestly. It's the superior car (unless you want to whine about visibility) even if the styling is evolutionary.

Competition is good as the next Camaro slated now has specs to beat, but 1. it costs way more now 2. its ugly as all hell.

I think the current 6th generation Camaro is to the 5th generation, what the 1993-97 4th generation was to the 3rd generation.

My personal guess on sales is the price has a lot to do with sales being down. I was looking at a 2LT/RS and they wanted $42k for it. 5th Gen, that would get you an SS.

I realize prices go up over time, but I think they jumped the price too much.

To quote myself from a previous thread...

This fits the historical narrative, Mustang has made very small MSRP increases even when performance is notably increased during an MCE.

1998 GT starts at $20,150
1999 GT starts at $20,945

2010 GT starts at $27,995
2011 GT starts at $30,495

2017 GT starts at $33,195

If we follow the increase % of '10 to '11 which involved a new engine, transmission, and sheet metal we get the following, as an estimate for the next MCE.*

2018 GT could have started at ~$36,159

So, honestly, $35,095 isn't a bad starting point.

It's a subjective topic, but the 3rd Gen and 4th Gen cars were far from similar. With the 5th and 6th Gen iterations, most "non-car people" cannot tell them apart. To the non-car enthusiast, he/she can easily tell the difference from a 3rd to a 4th. No contest.

Yes, my car stickered for ~$44k new. The same exact 2SS convertible stickers for ~$52-53k now. Yikes!
