Looking for assistance "Over Priced??"

A buddy of mine is looking at this car and asked me if I thought it was over priced, and my response was its only over priced if its more than you want to pay, but it did get me think about the car with all its mods and stuff.

https://www.carolinaautodirect.com/v...ct-id-50170209

What's a fair price for it?

Price is fair but not a steal IF the owner is willing to take a chance on a modified vehicle. The car itself is probably worth about 63K in today's market, the mods were likely $10-15K'ish with labor. Typically mods are worth about half the amount paid so if it were me, I would feel more comfortable paying $70k for that car if I wanted that vehicle. The mod list is proven and the shop that performed the work is also reputable. I would NOT want the meth system though and would have it removed if it were me and the car wouldn't make as much HP without the meth either.

Curious, why remove the meth system?

Methanol injection systems have a bad reputation for failing or being poorly implemented. This is most problematic when they are used in place of proper fueling. The pump can fail or the distribution of the meth is inadequate and a cylinder runs lean...kaboom. New LT4 time...

Tell him to join the Facebook Group, ZL1 exclusive unless he is dead set on getting a modded ZL1.

There are a number ZL1's on there for sale. A 2018, 2400 mile, red, ZL1 for $60k, for instance and a 2019, ~2400 mile, grey, ZL1 1LE for $68k.

I would pass on any used car selling for more than a brand new one off the line.

Even with the mods? Also, not seeing to many brand new ones around.

Seems like the Zl1 and 2SS are hard to find and when you do, they seem to be market inflated.

I wouldn't pay that for a car with zero warranty.

I don't care how good the parts are or the shop that installed them, stuff can and does break. No GM dealership is going touch the car if there's a powertrain issue because they can't run diagnostics. Only option is to take it back to RPM and based on your location that may be pretty inconvenient.

All those mods and no oil pump ?
Most shops I spoke to say it’s not necessary.

I think it’s a no brainer if you’re doing mods and have to get into the motor.

Overpriced in most of our gear head minds but if you consider the price of the new ZL1 and the Stage 4 package from RPM, the original owner had probably $80,000 to $85,000 after it was done. So if someone was looking for a used ZL1 with those mods then it would be a good deal considering the money spent on the car. I wouldn’t buy it though but someone will!

My first thoughts too.

Yes, but put those types of mods on any car with a warranty and it wont be touched.

I wonder about the longevity of this setup, spinning the puny stock LT4 blower to the moon at almost 17 psi, plus that extra meth system... impressive performance and great looking car for sure nevertheless.
