Any road course racers take drifting lessons?
Hey all!
I've now attended 7 track days and started thinking of ways to further improve. One thing that comes to mind is my comfort level when things go sideways. It's not as if I freak out when things get loose but I definitely have a tendency to let off instead of trusting the car and my skillset to power through. For that reason, I'm considering signing up for drift events. I figure my tires will soon be done anyway and what better way to learn how to drive at the limit (and beyond) of traction than a drifting school. Any of you do the same? Interested in your thoughts and perspective. Last edited by Dabjbr; 09-19-2021 at 09:24 AM. |

Seems fun, but keep in mind; most drift cars have been modified with a separated rear-brake-only stick, and spindles that allow the front-wheels to move much farther than a road-race car.

Both are good points. Any seat time is beneficial learning the limits of the car and driver. Doing it with the car closest to its HPDE/Track form is best. As mentioned, there are a variety of options to learning car control limits. Drifting (official or non-official) is only one... . Enjoy!

You don't necessarily need to go to a drift event although that works but time on a skid pad is equally sufficient.
