Smile Build the 2022

Just back from my CHEVY dealer to check on CAMARO update. As you know they stopped all production till the end of Sept. except the Corvette's. The week before the shutdown they only built 22 New 2022 Camaro's. They are using the shutdown as the chip shortage. So they don't have to pay for the holiday. This is straight from my dealer. So you may our own judgement on the last word.

Your dealer sounds poorly informed, based on updates in the news and in other subforums here.

I thought the Camaro and Caddy CTs were still being built?

Don't trust what the dealer says. They just make stuff up to keep you quiet.

Camaro and Caddies are being produced.

Many dealers hate dealing with orders.

They may hate dealing with orders, but they may need to get used to it. Ford is pushing the "order a car" program hard. If it's successful, GM will follow.

My guess is they will create a more "digital system" to deal with this issue, like when I ordered my Mini Cooper 16 YEARS ago, you could follow the entire process online.

This. My experience ordering a BMW 12 years ago was also very smooth (no surprise since they own Mini too). But they might hate orders less if they just gave us info when requested and stopped screwing around. All I needed was an order number, but after multiple calls and voice mails left for the sales managers, I still don't have one and have NO IDEA where my order is in the process. Sure took that deposit PDQ, though....

Your dealer doesn't know what they're talking about.

When I took my Camaro for an oil change last weekend, I drove around in a new Silverado with salesman that has worked there for 35 years. He told me GM just shut/or was about to temporarily shut down 8 production lines.

Yes, but GM's own press release for that shut down said it did not include the Bowling Green facility (Corvettes) or the Lansing facility (Camaros and Blackwings) and a couple others.

Yeap, the press release most definitely said that the shutdowns DID NOT include the corvettes, camaros, or blackwing caddys. I mean just go to the order tracking forum here...clearly things are moving still for Camaros. It's just a matter of the dealer getting those orders in. My dealer said they submit orders once a week, not sure how true that is, but it was a week ago today I went in, gave them my specs, and submitted my deposit. So hopefully I see some sort of movement this week or next.

Tbh, I hadn't looked into it. I was just posting what I heard but it sounds like things are still on track for you guys!

Good luck!

Waiting sucks, but it will definitely be worth the wait!

As of today several articles are indicating that LGR will take downtime the next two weeks. Joe also confirmed that a few hours ago in the order status requests thread.

Not sure if the OP's dealer inadvertently leaked info ahead of time or it is just a timely misunderstanding that proves out as valid today...

Yup - either way, sucks that it is true as of now, just hope it doesn't go longer than 2 weeks.
