New jba shorty headers for Camaro ss

Before anyone starts saying there shorties and why not get long tubes just remember I'm from cali so long tubes are really illegal here. Anyways these headers are from phastek performance and claim 12rwhp and 17 lb torque . Will these headers make a difference in sound with secondary cats deleted and mufflers deleted which is my setup now without the headers . What you all think. Us Cali guys can't really run long tubes unless we wanna risk it

etc.https://www.phastekperformance.com/J.../jba-1818s.htm

PS got a flex fuel tune coming up too so these headers won't be my only mod

Your engine already has mid length headers from the factory.

But these are after market ones that will give u decent rwhp and torque. Not like I'm replacing them for the exact same ones and not gaining anything lol.

No they don't...it's marketing at it's finest. Quit looking at parts magazines and start paying attention to guys that are actually going fast. If you want to gain some power and sound and do not want to mess with long tubes, then just get a set of CA performance cat delete pipes.

long tubes only give you 20hp shorties are not worth it as you already have them. if your keeping factory front cats you will probably not notice anything.

The runners merge into a small collector at that.
Literally must be the same size collection point as the factory headers to be able to bolt on to the cats.
No benefit at all when pulses merge.

Those gains are literally what you get deleting the cats leaving the factory headers.

Don’t waist your money! Our cars already have very good tri-y shorties from the factory!

Not even close. 80% of the gains in the exhaust is from deleting the primary cats because the cat pipes kneck down under 2". Long tube headers with no cats gain 25whp tops on a realistic Dyno and 15-20whp with high flow cats. That is tuning the car stock, then adding the headers and retuning.

Go long tubes and high flow cats, to keep the Commiefornia emissions off your case... Or just get a good tune in, and keep it stock

My 5th gen had the old style cast manifolds. So I went with the JBA shorties with Solo high flow cats. If the pics posted here are the auctual headers on your car then they are pretty good from the factory. I would do longtubes. Or....just install a set of high flow cats in place of your factory ones. That's the biggest restriction. I've been there and done that with both. For me the shorties were an upgrade from the factory manifolds...but they need high flow cats for power gains.

and the high flow cats will require a tune to pass inspection as they will cause a check engine light.

Deleting one or both cats will cause you to fail any visual and many A/M cats don't work worth a shit to reduce emissions

Not to hijack this thread... But if full length headers are illegal in CA, how is it NOT illegal to remove the secondary cats and the mufflers?

Just curious.

Yeah, I think a lot of folks are just not aware of how a strict the emissions laws are in California. He cannot get long tubes and high flow cats, the car will fail. Any modification to the stock catalytic converter, evidence of tampering or even moving it, will cause you to fail. I understand his desire to want to get shorties but, to be fair, I’m with everyone else here, as a former resident of California, if I was dead set on getting more power out of the car and I wanted to keep it legal, I’d just get a CARB certified supercharger and a catback.
