Seats
OK, weve had the SS for 3 weeks. 2020 2ss vert with Recaro seats.
I feel like I need the seat to recline a bit more. To the point that I am uncomfortable and due to my pre existing back issues I sometimes get out with my back tweaked. Im not sure its the seat but twice now I have gotten out with issues. And really I am almost perfectly comfortable while driving. I just need that little bit of additional recline. Is there any way to adjust the limits of seat recline? I only need a few more degrees. Anyone else experience anything like this? |

I am not personally sure what you are talking about in this instance but I will be dammed if it does not sound just like the 2004 Grand Prix.

You can remove the stops on the standard SS seats, I can't say for certain on the Ricaros. It's essentially a matter of knocking out the stop pin, there are numerous threads on here about how to do it.

I lilke what this guy did even better, he used an angle grinder to shear down the weld and just pushed out the stop.
Takes a bit bigger balls and I'd protect the rest of the area much more than with the drilling approach, but his seats must have looked OEM after the mod (if he painted the ground down surfaces), which cannot be said about those that were drilled through. https://youtu.be/wpgqYwTWHiU

Your Recaro seats will get more comfortable with more miles/seat time. Mine were like that after I first bought the ZL1 and with more time driving they have broken in to my body shape. Now the drivers seat fits my body like a glove and really supports my lower back. I really think if you give the seats more time then you will see what I’m talking about.

I just dont get why they put the seat stop in such a random spot. Makes no sense to me. I do like the grinder solution. Seems easier than drilling. Although I would definitely make a stronger effort to protect the seat.
Im thinking an air cut off wheel would make short work of that weld. A die grinder wouldnt spark either but might be hard to stay on target. My wife is going to kill me when I rip the sets out of her brand new vert and start grinding the hell out of stuff!! |

I wouldn’t grind or drill on the seats of a new car if it was me but you do what you feel is best for the situation! I still say in due time the seats will get better with more driving miles. That’s what happened in my situation.

Recaro's are racing seats not made for adjustability

I think they put the stops in the same place on the standard SS seats too. Didnt try it on the coup we drove. Some of the modification videos look like the standard seat.
Im not looking to sleep in the car. Im 5'8" tall and I fit comfortably with maybe 2 inches of travel remaining. I only need a few more degrees of recline to change the angle of stress on my back. I like the lumbar support and the side bolsters are fine. The seat grips and is comfortable. Im finding that I cant sit there for more than 20 minutes without my back issues kicking in. I have no issue with the seat at all. other than I need a few more degrees of recline. My back issues. Not the seat. I would still need that on the track or the street. A couple hours of work are worth it for me to enjoy the car. My wife is perfectly comfortable. And in fact we drove a coup and she couldnt put the clutch to the floor with the seat all the way forward. Less room in the vert and the seat reaches farther forward. Im more comfortable in the coup and I prefer a coup myself but shes wanted a vert for years. Probably if I were to order a vert from scratch I wouldnt get the Recaros though. Not a lot of racing going on in a convertible weighing in almost 250 lbs more than a coup. Not counting the roll bar you might probably be required to install. Some of the performance items are missing. The seats add coolness flavor to a quick car that mostly no one is going to race. If I was going to race it I would get a 1Le. |
