Trunk poppers?please help
Ok let's start off by saying I'm an idiot,I accidentally left my trunk wide open over night and it just so happens it rained last night. All in all the situation could've been much worse since the pcmr and fuse box are in the trunk, but luckily there wasn't much water that actually got down into the well where those sit. My problem is the trunk doesnt pop up,it unlatches but doesnt come up that 1/4 inch or whatever it is . I probably wont have a chance to look into it til tomorrow. My question is are the poppers a separate mechanism from the trunk latch itself or is it all a single part. If anyone has any experience that may help me here I'd appreciate it. Thank you

It's possible something got stuck, try to push down on the trunk to relieve the pressure while popping it. My trunk has done this to me once for reasons unknown and I had to do that.
don't forget there is a trunk pop button right above the tag, under the lip area. |

Any rust on the trunk struts? I'd lube them with a spray lube and see if it opens better.

No rust and doesnt look like anything is sticking,I'm just assuming there is a mechanism that actually pushes the trunk up slightly, before you could hear a noticeable popping sound, which is why refer to them as poppers, now it just sounds like a faint unlocking sound and the trunk doesnt actually lift it just sits flush like its closed

I tried to look around on the web about how the lid actually pops up I had no luck. Does the lid unlock? Or is it still locked even though it makes the sound?
Worse comes to worse you shorted out the latch system. |

Just looked at my trunk and there is two "poppers" on the trunk lid to the left and right of the latch. Those might be stuck and not working. Worth a look see.

Mine doesnt "pop up" either. Wife's Audi slowly opens completely when you "pop" the trunk with the remote or pushpad. When I "pop" the trunk on my Camaro, it looks the same as if it was closed.

I spilled a coffee with cream in my 1987 Mustang back in the day, got the carpet steam cleaned, and there was never any smell afterwards. Cost $75 back then and was well worth it.

Ok problem solved it looks like it was the "poppers"that were the issue,I thought they were electrical but are just a mechanical spring loaded ram(pics) and were easily removed by hand. I used some silicone spray lube and pushed in and out a couple dozen time to break up any dirt or corrosion that may have formed. WARNING!!! I did remove them and removed the rubber grommet that sits around the top as you can see in the pics, after I did this I tried pushing the plunger in while holding the popper and it popped open and parts shot all around my kitchen, luckily I didnt catch any pieces to the eyes. If you plan on lubing these keep the grommet on them or maybe hold the 2 halves of the body in a table vice or maybe with some vice grip pliers. I was able to find all parts I believe and was a little tough putting back together but I made it happen and now my trunk is working properly again. I appreciate everyone's advice and maybe this will help some having issues with their trunk not opening the way it should. I would still like to replace these if they are not too expensive so if anyone has a part # for them I'd appreciate you sharing it with us here. Thanks again
