Parking Brake warning light

Yesterday was the second time this has happened. It happens randomly for no apparent reason. Both times, after turning the car off and re starting it the warning light goes away. I’m wondering if any of you have heard of this being an issue.

I don’t want to take my car to the dealership without having some background on this issue since it happens so randomly.

Read the error code(s) at the OBD-II port and post them up, it'll be hard to diagnose the issue based solely on that MIL

I don’t have a code reader. I don’t want to get one just for this. Hopefully someone has come across this already.

In my area, most auto parts stores will either read the code for you or, let you use a code reader for free.

Really??! I didn’t know they would do that for free. Maybe I’ll take a cruise to my local auto zone and see what they say.

Dude, you spent probably $65,000+ on a ZLE, you can get an OBD-II reader for your smart phone for far less than $100 on Amazon, get one, it'll pay for itself in no time!!! Many are FAR less than $50!!! https://www.amazon.com/AUTOPHIX-OBD2...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

You are 100% correct. I should get one. I did a little research and found some conflicting information on the reliability of those cheaper code readers. That’s mainly the reason I haven’t gotten one yet.

I think I've found the issue with my car giving me that parking brake code. The positive terminal on my battery was not installed properly. It was a little loose because when I tightened the small bolt/nut that locks it into place on the battery’s post I didn’t realize it wasn’t seated properly.

I kept getting the parking brake code, sometimes the motor would struggle to crank and other times it would not start at all.

I got myself a multimeter, checked the battery and alternator and they checked out fine. While doing that I realized the cable was not seated properly. Once I adjusted it, all codes went away. Car starts and runs just fine.

Maybe most people dont want to get an ODB reader and rather go to autozone to get it scanned for free.....that goes for people who spend any amount on a car. It's not like anyone really needs one on a stock vehicle.

If I had purchased an ODB reader then I would have not recovered any money. My '92 Camaro, '02 WS6, '06 GTO, '12 135i, '13 Tundra, '09 Camry, '18 ZL1, '19 Silverado or '20 Ram 1500 have never thrown a code or did something that required a scan to be done.

I get more use out of the electric pole saw that I use a couple of times a year than I ever would with an ODB reader.

Yes it's good to have but not really needed.
