Performance Data Recorder Camera Upgrade

Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the lens/camera on the PDR from 720 (bleh) to 1080 or 4k? The quality on the camera leaves a lot to be desired, so I would totally shell out for an upgrade if it's possible.

You can do anything if you throw enough money at it. The question is how much money are you willing to throw at it.

yeah, that would be a nice mod, maybe one of the vendors here would be willing to put something together if it's feasible, i would think something in the $200 to $300 range would be something folks would jump on.

But, as mentioned, some things are easier said that done.

It doesn't seem like it would be totally unreasonable to do, ya know? Just pop the lens out and put a better one in. I'd ask my local dealer but they are not the sharpest on anything except straight factory stuff.

Its not just the camera you have to worry about. Its the components that process the signal and record it. Processing 1080 vs 720 is a significant change. Its possible that they are forward compatible, just depends on how they did everything. I would definitely say there is a chance that just slapping on a 1080 camera would work but that doesn't net you 4K.

It's not the lense. It's the junk sensor. It's a data device not for making movies. That's just there for fun visual data. Not to make a movie of you at the track.

It's not camera, its compression.. way too much compression even though data rate appears to be quite high (5.3mbps) for 720p video. Just look at home many hours thing claims to be able to hold on typical 32gb card.. like 800+ minutes!
