Rivian Skateboard

Since I’ve referred to it a few times, here is the Rivian skateboard. I took these during the press days at the New York Intl Auto Show.

As long as it can tow and haul (all I use my Denali for), with that range, it might tempt me...even then, where we camp and tow enclosed trailers to, charging an EV isn't possible (non-powered campsites, no EV charge stations within 400 miles of where I live).

It's coming someday, but I will have to see independent research to show battery resource sourcing, especially the Cobalt, before I place any of my money into an EV.

It won't. You don't get the full 500 or so mile range on a full tank of gas when towing & hauling with your truck as is. An EV won't be any different. Doing more with your truck takes more energy, doesn't matter whether that comes from dino juice or electrons.

*edit*
Why the very specific concern of Cobalt sourcing?

The difference is, there are plenty of gas stations along the way, and ZERO charge stations anywhere I go...

Research Cobalt mining and what it looks like around the world, but more importantly, how it's being sourced from third-world countries using child labor.

Colorado / Canyon / Savanna / Express built there currently.

I can't see that much investment needed to keep building those same vehicles there, even if there is a re-tooling needed for a new gen Colorado / Canyon (I assume)

So I wonder what the heck it could be?

Maybe they're going to be modernizing their full size vans? The things are as old as dirt, so it might take a lot of money to completely revamp that side of the production line.

they better revamp their vans. 100% of my customers that are replacing their old work vans aren't even considering a GM van. Majority have gone Ford transit, some Nissan and the others Dodge.

So according to an earlier post in early March, the order entry opens up today for 2020 Colorado and Canyon. Hopefully won't be long until we see an order guide for the 2020 models.

Missouri legislature is going to vote on whether or not to throw up to 50 million in subsidies at GM if they move forward with their investment in the plant.

Something similar to this with Ford happened recently. Missouri made the prospect a bit more enticing for Ford and Ford went ahead with their investments (Ford may have done so regardless? Who knows) but it has worked out well for Missouri in the end.
