Have you been to the Vette forum? Watch out..
I'm following news on the C8 pretty closely so I find myself at the Corvette forum a lot, but damn, that is one of the worst communities I've seen. Between people at each other's throats about the mid engine Vette needing to carry golf bags or not, grumpy old guys that don't like DCTs and want it to be front engined, and tons of Camaro hate, I'm not sure I want to be part of that. There are good members, but the bad ones seem to out number them. I haven't even created an account there yet.
Most of the Vette people I've in person have generally been cool. But most I've met at HPDEs, which is a different type of guy than you see at Cars and Coffee I guess. I was pleasantly surprised when I joined the Camaro forum. Lots of helpful people, mostly calm debates. Anyone else thinking about a C8? None of the current Vettes perform significantly better than the high performance variants Camaros for me to buy one, but the new mid engine design has me plottin'. |

passions run high amongst enthusiasts.
in my opinion, they should have called it something other than a Corvette and kept the FR vette. I can sort of understand the outrage for some, since this is radically different car now. If i could afford one, i'd be interested.

The C8 is going to be cool to watch, the mid engine contingent has hid in plain sight at GM for the last 40+ years. Most vocal through design concepts that were clearly mid engine. Though a lot of the design elements were worked in to the later cars, C5 & C6, it was never an out right attempt at a mid engine car.

I'm curious how the next Camaro will look, now that it's no longer going to compete with the FR layout of the Corvette.

well ya know, there is no reason to create a separate account....as camaro5, camaro6 and corvette7 are connected and you can use your same user name and password on each. just so ya know.

A lot of the current Corvette owners would be better served in a standard Camaro SS since they just want the sound and to cruise around. |

Back in the day when I got my first C5 Z06, the community on Z06vette.com was pretty awesome.
Never really spent any time on the regular corvette forum though.

I'm unsure about the mid engine C8. I know it will improve performance a lot by having the mid ship layout, but I think the styling could suffer in the process. The really short hood with a big long back end just looks ungainly to me.
It doesn't seem to evoke the same traditional Corvette shape to me. I hope they keep the front engine Corvette for some time after the C8 comes out though. I know GM wanted to do a mid engine Corvvete as far back as the early '70's, but a lot of the classic Corvette design proportions seem to get lost in the mid engine transition. As for the Camaro, think it should remain a 4 seat passenger car and not morph into a pure sports car. If it does and it replaces the current Corvette, then they will have to come up with a replacement for the Camaro as it moves up into the spot the Corvette currently occupies IMO. Just my $.02. |

I wish they never killed the SS (or priced it as high as they did).

I’m not planning to get one because it’ll probably be well over a $100k car.
I’d rather have a C7 as I think they the best looking Vettes in my lifetime. If I can scoop a good used C7 ZO6 I’d be happy. If not, a new ZL1 1LE with A10 will do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think once the performance numbers and driving reviews come out for the C8 people will forget all about clinging to tradition.

And they got mad over ditching the round taillights for the C7. Before that they complained about the loss of the retractable headlights on the C6.
They will get over it. |
