It's very common. GM will give you a "car note," they call it. When your car is finished with service you send GM a receipt of the car payment from your bank. They reimburse you.

If they give you a loaner, they're not likely to give you a car note.

Literally, “car notes” are the main thing a field rep can do without any prior auth and without much paperwork.

As someone who went through a buyback/lemon law here in Minnesota, time out of service counts toward your lemon law days regardless of reason including waiting on parts. I would try and go that route if I were you.

Dropped my 2020 1SS off on October 11th for a leaking rear brake caliper. The caliper just arrived at the dealer today and the tech installed it so I could get my car back. I will take the time to type up a letter to send to GM, but I have no grand visions of it ever even being read by anyone that cares. Hounding the dealer or burning the dealer on a survey about their work will only affect the dealer and its employees. This is completely out of the dealers hands.

GM has a customer service phone number and my experience with them was awesome. My advisor called me every 2 business days with updates on my car which was in service for 86 days and ended up with a new engine under warranty.

You don't have to write a letter. Just call them, and someone will care.

My experience with GM Corporate Customer Service was awesome. They even gave me a 75,000 mile warranty on the new engine that was installed after spun camshaft bearing. The bearing went at 57,000 miles and so now I have a powertrain warranty until 132,000 miles. This is now my forever car.

Ya think they want to make sure that I stay a GM customer ?

Doing or saying nothing will get you just that.

My experience with GM customer service has been the complete opposite. I really have no use for them. The letter is just to make me feel better about at least trying to let GM know, even though I know they dont care.

I have the car back and it isnt leaking brake fluid anymore. I could have fixed it myself within a week of finding the issue, but that would have involved buying parts I shouldnt have had to buy on a 550 mile car.

In our case they did, but it was a Cadillac
