Engine overheating-Radiator fan

My engine overheated today and after a ton of troubleshooting I figure out that the radiator fan never turns on. I am trying to troubleshoot the fan but I am sooo lost.

To test the fan I ran a 12v wire and ground directly from the front 12V terminal and the body ground thats there. I verified it was showing 12v on my voltmeter and the fan doesn't turn on. The fan has a third like 20 gauge wire that I dont know what it does. Is this a remote wire? Do I need a voltage on it to get the fan to run?

I also tested the connector from the car the to radiator fan and its showing a steady 12 volts even after the car is off and cooled which why I am thinking maybe the third wire is some kind of remote. Either that or the fan was stuck on for some reason and killed the fan motor.

I am also having a hard time locating the k22 cooling fan control module that is referenced in the repair manual. Any idea where it is?

I had to replace my cooling fan on my 2016 at the beginning of the summer ealier this year, cant remember what I did when I was troubleshooting.
But I was shocked that it went bad on such a new car.

Rockauto had the cheapest price on a fan when I was searching

Any mods? Has the car ever been in an accident? I had to constantly replace the fuse in my GTO after I had a bad front end crash. Also check your coolant level. These LS/LT water pumps are prone to leaking.

So far what I've read is that the fuse for the fan is on the fuse block that is not replaceable with replacing the whole fuse block (attached to B+). The fan control module is PWM and you can no longer hook the fan directly to 12V (at least not without pullout the fan out and taking it apart). The control module is built into the fan assembly and gets the pwm directly from the ecm that controls the command mode 1-5. 1 being the slowest. So really not easy to troubleshoot at all. I can't find the frequencies for the command modes to test the ECM terminal 3 (carries the pwm signal) so really I just need to hook my fan up to another car and see if it turns on. The only problem is that really doesnt tell me if the fan or the fan control died.

This really isn't something a shade tree mechanic can 100% troubleshoot easily that's for sure.
