Hey guys... almost done with a new product, and was hoping for some feedback (only positive of course)
Full disclaimer, my good friend and Camaro6 contributor may have given me this idea, or at least planted the seed in one of our many conversations (not sure) so before I start... Thank you David! The 6th Generation Camaro ZL1's hood is clearly a work of art, and admired by many. Not just for it’s beautiful lines, and converging materials but most all, because it is functional. Unfortunately, GM was required to balance extracting as much heat as possible while minimizing the intrusion of water into the engine bay. The GM solution was a large restrictive water guard. While this design served its purpose, it inevitably constrained the hood's cooling capacity, and worst of all, this limitation has gone largely unaddressed by the aftermarket… until now! Inspired by the formidable GT4.R race car, I set out to create a sleek, cost-effective solution that delivers quantifiable performance benefits, with a minimalist form factor. I achieved this by replacing the restrictive factory rain guard with our precision-engineered, all-aluminum High Flow Hood Insert Bracket. Doing so will help ZL1 owners unlock a 70% + increase in airflow area allowing for much better heat extraction and cooling potential. For those mindful of weight reduction, this upgrade also sheds approx. 2.5 pounds over OEM. Although the engine bay is built to handle water runoff, I recommend this modification for fair weather driving only. Installation is a breeze, and includes upgraded stainless steel hardware, or you can utilizing all existing factory hardware. This bracket is meticulously CNC-cut, following the natural lines of the hood, and finished with a matte black powder coat finish to maintain a clean, OEM aesthetic. Pricing is not yet finished, but should be around $85 +/- Looking to have (50) units ready to ship in 2 weeks or less. Also note, the one in the photo is just a prototype. Final version will be black. Some of the photos also show the center black plastic clip, that will be replaced by a jack-nut and bolt. Sooooo....... what do you think?

Is the rear of the insert raised as well? If so can you do the rear only without lowering the front? Not a bad idea...what does it look like with the hood closed from the sides and fro t?

I like it. What kind of finish are you putting over the aluminum? Powdercoat black or?

"cost-effective solution"... I would have a hard time paying $45 for something like this and even then, I would think twice.
"allowing for much better heat extraction and cooling potential"... What are the before and after temps? Good luck with your sales. |

Good question. The hood insert does not move from its OEM position. Just removing the rain guard (which also supports the CF insert) and replacing it with the bracket. No changes to the rear. Does that answer your question?

Yes, I was going to use a matte black powder coat... thoughts?

What harm is done if you just run your car without the rain guard? I thought I read, if you track your car, you should remove the rain guard. I don't track my car, but I do run it without the rain guard. I haven't noticed any negative effects to my insert at all.

I will be interested in one. Car doesn’t get driven in the rain anyway.
