Thud/Clunk coming from rear end
Just wondering if anyone here has had this issue before. I'm getting my car ready for the track again and noticed that when I let go of the throttle under 1st gear there is a clunk/thud noise from the back. Very noticeable at low speeds, less so at higher speeds.
I'm thinking it has something to do with bushings on the differential but wanted to check here first to see if anyone has had this issue before. I still need to lift the car up and investigate further. |

Ok I just took a video from under the car it's definitely the differential bushings, too much play. Going to need to replace them, anyone here done them before?

Also while I'm here, does anyone have any idea how to find part numbers for the Camaro? I am looking for the part number for a differential carrier rear bolt and have no idea how to find it. The service manual doesnt list any part numbers as far as I can tell.

In many cases the level of detail the official online catalog offers is insufficient; in those cases I resort to some "gray zone" sites such as this one: https://7zap.com/en/catalog/cars/Che...GNjVVdPdz09--/ (but those are also incomplete in many ways, sigh...)

Update:
I went under the car today and started looking around, all the bushings are fine my Carriage bolt under the car that holds the back of the diff was loose! Tightened it back up, should be all good now, still need to do a test drive but I'm 99% sure this was it. Here is a reference for anyone in the future. |

I ordered a new one, I'll replace it and put loctite on it when it arrives.

Just be aware that adding Loctite will act as a lubricant during install of the bolt and skew the 162 foot pounds +60° specs, increasing the actual torque compared to dry torque
