The only caveat I've noticed in "news" articles about the mandates being eliminated and the transition to EVs, is that even though most automakers claim it will only slow the transition to electric vehicles due to "their investments" (and losing give-away incentives from taxpayers to purchase and produce EVs), is that they never mention the possibility that consumers will still not purchase EVs as they hope. What then?
For an automaker to claim they suddenly can't make any new or affordable ICE model cars that consumers would prefer, looks to me like their wishful thinking that buyers will believe this self-serving claim. Good luck to the manufacturers who take advantage of the opportunity to produce vehicles without the job-killing regulations, emissions standards, etc., that will give them the freedom to compete with EVs. (Not to mention the soon to end artificial high prices for gasoline due to idealogue goals of eliminating fossil fuels). The future has great possibilities for all if only we grasp the unleashing of competition for the car buyers dollar. That ICE is dead, EVs are inevitable for all, etc., is to sadly stay in the past (and ignore the future of de-regulation and low cost energy availability) that had been bureaucratically foisted unnecessarily on the US population to mandate EVs. My $.02. Good luck! P.S. From an article...: "According to Trump’s executive order titled Unleashing American Energy, the United States will, “eliminate the ‘electric vehicle (EV) mandate’ and promote true consumer choice … by ensuring a level regulatory playing field for consumer choice in vehicles.” Additionally, this order requires that in certain situations, state emissions waivers limiting the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles be terminated. This clearly is a dig at California, which, back in December received a waiver from the EPA that, by 2035, allows the state to ban the sale of vehicles solely powered by gasoline, cars, and trucks with no sort of hybridization or electrification technology." My next car purchase will have a V6, period. Owning a 1.5L turbo Equinox hasnt been a disaster by no means but it simply doesnt have the passing power I want. On 2 lane highways, its never confidence inspiring when I go to pass. Again, its been a decent, reliable car but it's abysmally under powered. GM offers NOTHING in an SUV with a V6 and the only V6 sedan is a Cadillac. Sorry GM, you're out! I might go with an Explorer as it has a V6 still. If I want a sedan, It'll be foreign as the US companies have pretty much abandoned that market other than a Cadillac which isnt practical for my business purposes\.
When it's time to replace the Camaro, maybe I'll go with a Shelby Mustang. I hate to, but GM does not appear to want to reverse course on ANY of its bad decisions. |

My wife has a 23 Acadia Denali with a V6. I'm soooo glad we were able to get the last of the V6's I swear on the highway over 70MPH, it gets better mileage than the Equinox! |

I test drove one out of curiosity and was really impressed. They were going for 30k back in 2019. I don’t think they offer that trim anymore. |

My wife's car is a 2017 Malibu Premier with the LTG 2.0L turbo engine. The power and torque is acceptable to me. It moves out quickly and handles surprisingly well for a FWD car. The 9-speed transmission is excellent and is always in the right gear. You have to pedal it off the line or it will spin the front wheels through 1st and 2nd. There's at least one 5 series BMW owner still crying in his tea every morning from the butt hurt of getting smoked by a lowly Chevy off the line and down the road. Fun facts: 2017 Malibu Premier is faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile than my former 1988 Trans Am 5.7 TPI. All that said. I still prefer my V8's.

Oh the difference 30 years can make..
My 1996 V8 Trans Am 0-60 was around the same as the 6th Gen V6 Camaro. Not to mention the handling difference... Cars got pretty good in the 2010's! |

The 2.0t/9spd was the only power train available in the 2019 Equinox Premier. But it was pricey, MSRP near $40k if you ticked all the boxes. The dealers screamed for a cheap "premium" version and got a 1.5L base engine version for 2020. Then dealers did what dealers do and made sure the 2.0t engine died (in the Equinox anyway). And despite 5 years of being told the 1.5L is not competitive, GM's response is "We don't care". A detuned 2.0t is available, drops in but they can't be bothered.

On a 4 lane highway, its fine. You dont have a limited amount of time to get around traffic before you're in danger of dying like you do on a 2 lane. I have to drive in rural areas a lot for my job and my V6 Impala was perfect. Too bad GM doesnt make those cars anymore! I also miss having a proper trunk where you can lock things out of sight. |
