Motor-head Uncle gives "Seal of Approval" on 6th Gen

Those not in my family, don't know what an accomplishment this is. My uncle is a dedicated, hard-core motor head. His 1st new car was a 1968 Dodge Coronet (383 4 bbl, 4 speed manual, dual exhaust and a posi rear end) - he grew up on, and LOVES torque.

He is "that guy," who MUST test drive any new, or new to them car bought by anyone in the family. Plus he will look it over like he was buying it for himself, pointing out everything.

An example is that he also LOVES bikes, not the crotch rockets, the BIG cruisers. And even in NE Ohio will ride all year round as long as the roads are clear. He saw on YouTube that several long distance riders were tired of having to buy new tires, 2 or 3 times on cross-country rides (I guess motorcycle tires wear quick, since the contact patch is so small), so a few of them switched to using auto tires on the rear of their bikes and RAVED about how awesome it was and how much cheaper the tires are as well as how long they last.

So the motor-head in him was triggered and he HAD to do it to his big BMW cruiser. Since he works at a metal fabricating company, he made several custom pieces that were needed for the modification. He also had to loosen the right side exhaust to fit the tire on his bike, then tighten it back down. TOO, he put the car tire on a lathe, and using a cheese-grater type file, to gave it a more rounded profile for better handling. Now HE is a convert to using car tires on the backs of bikes.

Back to the 6th Gen:
First thing he said was "Nice color, what's the torque?" So I told him that Edelbrock claims 319 at the wheels. He then takes the next 45 minutes to go over every nook and cranny - looking underneath, under the hood into all the nether regions - looking for any sign it was driven in winter. He came up empty. Then he starts asking about the supercharger.

He stands up and walks toward me, and I know what's coming next, so I extend the fob to him ... but he DECLINED

TOTALLY UNHEARD OF!!! He has NEVER not driven a car when offered the keys. Then he starts telling me that I did real good selecting the car (another shocker - usually he grunts or nods, depending on if he thinks you did "ok" or not).

As I was about to leave, I told him to stay in the driveway and I would let him 'really hear' the car as I left, so I did a WOT 1st & 2nd gear pull down the street. I could almost HEAR his grin as I drove away.

Normally, that would have been it. He would have kept his thoughts to himself and be done. I decided to stop at my mom's house on the way home and when I got there, I found out that my uncle had already called her and was telling her how much he LIKED the car!! Again - unheard of.

My mom told me she hadn't heard him this excited about a family member's car, ever. It seems very few cars have really impressed him since the muscle car era of the 60's.

I was already really happy with my 6th, but getting his stamp of approval really felt like a big win.

They are really sharp looking cars. So many people comment on mine. Even my friend who is all about the classic muscle admitted that he really, really liked my car.

When you really want to make alittle more fun, try what I did with my 5th Gen LLT V6- throw in a bigger rear gear. I put Richmond's 3.73 rear in my 2010 V6 Camaro. I thought it bogged a bit so in went the shorter gear. Followed by an IPF tuned Procharger. 394hp and 349 torque to the back wheels on that car. More than the stock V8 LS engines at that time.
1st gear was way shorter than needed but man was 2nd gear a Hoot!
There's still a list of FI V6 FI cars on the Gen5 site-
