Except that isn't android being picky. When you use a cable without the data wires in it, nothing reaches Android for it to be picky about.

OP

I'll make this simple. Go to the Settings menu on the stereo and scroll down, you'll see Apple CarPlay and you should see Android Auto. If you don't see Android Auto then you need software update.

If you do see Android Auto in the menu, then you need better cables.

/the end.

Right, but as a consumer, most people dont understand the difference that the cables can have and just order "USB-C" cables thinking they all work the same. Hence, why its easier to just say "USE OEM CABLES WITH ANDROID" to guarantee they work for AA.

My failure has been present with the oem cable. I believe it should be instead an update issue.

As said now GM wont cover it for free so you are up to the dealer charge to have the update flashed into the vehicle. Any Android cable will work, Android isnt nearly as picky as Apple is with the cable requirements.
My car has the (android) projection icon on the screen but it doesn't connect with my S9 plus. cellphone

It has to be a cable that transmits data. It can't just be a charging only cable.

OP, make sure you have the app downloaded on your phone. Also go into the mylink settings and make sure it is selected and activated. If it still doesn't work, it's probably going to be one of 3 things. The cable, the USB port in the console or something in the programming in the Mylink.

Hi Jeff,
I followed the mentioned steeps with my stock cellphone cable and it did not worked on neither of the 2 usb ports. Here I send you pictures of my car screen & cellphone screen with the Android auto app screen.
I only see the apple option as you can see on my picture.
Please advise.

As I mentioned previously... That means you need software update from the dealer.

Do you have a way to test on another phone and cable?
I have seen cables go bad but still allow charging and I have had that happen which wouldn't allow me to use AA. I would first replace the cable before forking out for the update. At the very worst you will just have a spare cable you can keep in the car and dedicate to AA
