I believe Jesse said that the live axle conversion on the 5th gen would necessitate using a fuel cell.

John is correct. The stock fuel tank is in the garbage with either the COPO style 4-link or the Moser torque arm. As far as removing weight from the car. ditching the stock rear cradle and IRS removes a ton... like H-E said the weight comes off the rear. but I can tell you a factory 427 COPO car is under 2900lbs dry. There are many options available to get even lighter but as we all know that comes with added cost. I will add that on our silver clone we run a LSX block which is added front % and i have added 145# in the rear to get the balance to 50/50. even with that added we are 34xxlbs with driver

I don't like to bring an old thread back to life, but I just saw this and thought I'd clarify what happened.

When I was the manager of EPP we built the first Moser GTO M9 9 inch rear back in 2008. This was for a customers 2005 GTO, and we started with the very successful Moser M9 4th gen F Body rear. Moser took our design and modified it for production for the GTO, and we then put this rear back in this GTO. We took it to Memphis for the 3rd LS Street Nationals and we broke the locker on the starting line on the first pass. Lockers have to be reengaged by doing a dry hop after the burnout box or they can break, which is what happened. It didn't have anything to do with Moser's product, it was our fault for not having a spool in it. Bob

IRS just takes knowledge, money, trial and error and can easily hang with any live axle setup. It will get frustrating before it gets better

I am with you on the solid axle swap Jr! With a th400, and a solid axle we have basically turned our modern pony car into a old school drag car with a modern look! Lol, wait that's perfect

Is keeping close to 50/50 weight distribution on a drag application really critical? Guys with drag trucks, and quite a bit of early muscle cars probably don't have close weight distribution, in those applcations it may have a negative effect but not bad enough that people stay away from building those particular cars. Wouldnt all the positives of switching to sra be enough to more than overcome the downside of the weight loss over the drive wheels?

solid axle is ALWAYS better for drag racing than irs. The only benefit of Irs is comfort being that it rides a lot smoother.

Extreme innovations Fabricarion has done a couple 4 link setups no idea how much they charge though or if you have to do a roll cage along with it to stiffen it up and support the 4 link. I might hold off on a cage if I can. rules changed so 2008 and newer don't require a cage. until you run10.1

I thought that was only for unmodified vehicles. As soon as it got tuned or a CAI it needed a bar at 11.49

Last I read it was still unclear about the modifications. Weather it was performance only or chassis type modifications. I'll look into it though
