Sound deadening for subs

Looking to see some people’s setups that had to put sound deadening in the trunk to eliminate rattling.

What’s the video called. I just looked all over his channel. Couldn’t find it. I know how to remove all the carpet and material. Just looking for some input on what people found they had to focus more on. I’m planning on doing the spare area, above the wheel wells, the trunk lid and rear deck.

The rear deck, trunk lid, sides of the trunk, the doors and roof is where you will get the most noise. The floor of the trunk probably won’t do much as it is pretty solid.

There’s a lot more space in the rear deck than I thought. A nice ported 12” or pair of tens firing up to that back glass. Mmmmm, must resist the urge.

That area is where I am finding the Most vibrations from when isolating the rattles lol. I don’t have the rear deck speakers. So it is empty. Without taking a decent amount of plastic off it is also difficult to get material under the plastic cover for all of that. I pretty much just put big sheets underneath the shelf to help. Seems to work well so far. Not the most comfortable job laying in that trunk lol.

I didn’t pay close attention to how extensive it is to remove that rear deck cover but it’s probably the best option so you hit both sides of the sheet metal. That trunk opening is ridiculous.

Josh:
  • Hey, good luck with this.
  • I'm going to look this weekend to see if my installer put any Soundskins in the trunk area of my ZL1 vert - there are no rattles whatsoever from my JL 10" sealed box and 600 watts of power even at full rumble.
  • Did you choose your sub yet - if so, what did you choose?
  • If you are still open to suggestions, I think the JL's kick ass.
  • The customized JL Stealthbox for Camaro and the standard JL sealed or ported boxes are both great "plug and play" solutions.

Yes I have already chose my system. Still a work in progress though. Currently I have 2 12” DB drives that are 1200rms for the pair. They are in a sealed box. Which sound good but I’m used to ported so I’m going to build a ported box for them. For the most part the sound deadening has been a success for what I have put down. A couple songs I have noticed get the roof and glass vibrating pretty good lol. Never going to be 100% when going for higher power.
