Drivers are different, too... It's a gauge: a good one...but nothing more, due to the lack of a supervising body. Car and Driver's Lightning Lap is another "sketchy", but better-controlled test between vehicles. Nevertheless....to best the Ring in 7:30 or less is blisteringly fast. Any car in that range can be held on a pedestal. Quote:
Often times, you're finishing at much higher speeds than that. And....you can lose seconds in the corners, if you entry and exit isn't perfect. Here's a cool perspective of a portion of Milford...they're not pushing as hard as they could be...scroll down to the PDR video: http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro-zl1 |

With Corvette and Camaro both at the ring, it seems like the spy-shots and videos are not that plentiful.....I would have thought the interwebs would be blowing up with spy shot pics, videos, etc., of one or both....Heck, they're probably all done by now....

I think it will be faster than Ferrari 488 GTB (7:21.63), and very similar to C6 ZR1 time. (7:19) Guessing somewhere between 7:18 and 7:20.
I'm sure it will be the Fastest muscle car on the Ring!

I am always interested in the 'Ring times for any performance car because it does give you an indication of potential.
We all know it is not the end-all, be-all absolute benchmark because comparisons are usually never done on the same day/same driver etc plus weather conditions can vary so much. However, it is a very interesting piece of data to consider.

Not to mention the possibility that the Camaro may actually be quicker and faster than the Corvette....at least for a short while, perhaps.... |

GM said they thought there was 'another 6 seconds in the car' (they ran a 2014 model) and most pundits thought there was maybe a little more. So the official run was a 7:37:40 - in the rain - that was still 4 seconds better than the 5th Gen ZL1 on a dry track. The new ZL1 1LE should absolutely kill the Ring time and I'm betting we'll see a mid-low 7:1X...

I love ring times, and watching the videos of them over and over.
I hope Chevy does not 'settle' with an ok ring time due to bad weather just to get some numbers on the board. I feel they kind of did this with the '14 Z28 since part of the course was wet with rain. (Maybe it would of been a couple sec faster in nice weather). I love the looks of this car, the wing wont slow it down much on the long straight, but the canards (or dive planes some have come to call them) how will those effect it?

The hail mentioned earlier in thread...
Automatic trans on ZR1 GM dialing in both ZL1 and ZR1, hopefully we'll see Nordschleife times soon. |

On the Z/28 time: Because of the expense of sending the cars to the ring and securing the track for testing, they usually have a pretty limited window to get a hero lap in. Compound with the fact that over 12-13 miles of track any one mistake can ruin or compromise that lap. The first trip (or first couple) the car is still in development and doesn't really represent the final product so those are no good. Usually it's not worth the cost to send someone/rent the track for a hero run simply for advertising purposes. The Z/28 run was the best they could do with video backup and they didn't think it was worthwhile to send it again to try to get a better run out of it.

I was surprised at guessing so close too. This shows how consistent the 1LE is at different tracks... it was able to maintain that lap time advantage over the zl1 from Milford to the Nurburgring
