My New 2SS RS - Story and pics with her garage mates

Last week I picked up a 2010 2SS Camaro RS with 6-speed and just about every available option. The car had 5,600 miles on the clock. It has an extended warranty and will probably remain pretty stock, but will give me something fun to drive to work every day.

The Story- Last October, I sold my BMW and purchased a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 coupe. I drove the car all year long but had quite a few problems with it. I finally got to the point where I just couldn't track down a recurring CEL stating that there was a miss-fire on cylinder #2. I swallowed my pride and took it to a shop that specializes in Porsches.

They told me that there was a crack in the cylinder wall which was allowing coolant to seep in causing the CEL. This was a fatal diagnosis. The owner of the shop said that I couldn't drive the car so I had it flat-bedded back to my house. I took it down to the local Chevy dealer in hopes of trading it in on ANYTHING.... just wanted to get something out of the car.

Thankfully the engine stayed together as they test drove it and I got $12,700 towards the Camaro... I only paid $15k a year ago, so I was very happy. Of course I got flamed on the Porsche forum for trading a 911 in on a Camaro and for trading in a car that's about to blow the engine.... but, here I am... a happy new Camaro owner.

I have attached a few quick pics I took last night of the Camaro and her garage mates.

About each one:

Camaro: 2010 2SS RS with (I think) every option available in early 2010 including the sunroof and premium audio system. LS3 and 6-speed.

Callaway Corvette: 1990 B2k Callaway Corvette #43 of 58 built. It's 100% stock and only has 3,300 miles on the clock. Twin turbo V8 and 6-speed trans.

Dinan 8: 1991 BMW 850i with the full Dinan 8 conversion done by Dinan Performance Engineering. Its one of 50 built. Stage II Twin turbo V12 making 525hp and 589tq through a 4-speed automatic.

Corvette: 1988 Corvette coupe. 450hp 406cid V8, pro-built trans, D44 rear end, custom body and interior, etc etc.

That's all I pulled out for the pics...

Looking forward to having some fun with the Camaro now!

JRW, CONGRATS on the new ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

I love Porsches and I own a Camaro SS the second Gen 5 actually and I love it. Also I personally wouldn't have bought a 996 early 911. I heard 996s are a pain and some consider the first gen of watercooled 911s to be not a real 911. Would have been better off buying a 993 instead the last air cooled 911s. But you could modify your SS to out handle a 996.

When I bought the Porsche, I wanted something on the cheaper side to see how I liked it as a daily driver. I think the 996 is a very capable car and fun to drive but the early 996's (mk 1) have some serious engine issues including cracked heads and cylinder walls. All 996's seem to suffer from the dreaded RMS and IMS issues. The 993's seem to be increasing in value and are demanding crazy prices now.

Anyway, I got lucky and got most of my money back on the 911 before it detonated. I have lots of other cars to modify and plan to keep the Camaro pretty stock for now. The SS is pretty potent as it came from the factory... but who knows, the modding bug always seems to bite me at some point!

Thanks for all the comments!
