Pulley/Ported blower and heat soak
So I have my headers ready to go in and am not sure if I wanna port the blower and go with a 2.3 pulley. I live in NJ so the summers can get pretty hot and humid.
Anyone who has a ported blower with a 2.3 pulley, do you ever run into any heat soak issues? I know there will be some heat soak and power loss, I mean more so how often do you find yourself in limp mode. I’m thinking about doing a track day just for fun also at some point but I’m early spring when it’s still in the 60s or so. I know E is an option but getting E in NJ is a real PITA I’d like to avoid ice tank/heat exchangers. So what’s everyone’s experience with a pulley and ported blower? |

Yes you will Have heat soak. I live in NJ and I have a ported blower stock pulley. My Tuner did not recommend the 2.3 unless cam and heads were done. I know a lot of people who do run the 2.3 so you probably can but gains will be small if any in the summer months.

Really just depends on how you're running the car. Day to day driving is probably not an issue, nor is drag racing. A road course would be the worst case scenario.

I have the lower 9.17 pulley, non ported stock blower. No heat soak issues even in the Georgia heat, in normal street driving. The increase in HP/throttle response was well worth it. On a road course, could be a different story.

I have ported blower, ported snout, adm reservoir and wx heat exchangers. No heat soak during track days at Barber in Alabama. Temps climb when sitting still, but drop back to 20* or so above ambient when moving. Hope that helps.

Did u ever have that setup minus the heat exchangers and reservoir? What made u go that route instead of a 2650?

2650 wasnt available when I modded my motor. I picked what was easily swapped back to stock. I did everything I was told would give good gains without sacrificing reliability. It's worked well so far. I'm also at the sweet spot for good power without worrying about fueling. Obviously this is just my opinion ymmv.

2. If you go with a 2650, the other parts I see most often are headers, 103mm throttle body, Rotofab big gulp intake and a 160 thermostat. This will take the car close 650WHP. 3. The car would still need Heads/Cam to make 750WHP.

Are you running the stock exhaust and intake?

How much additional power did it make?
I'm having mine ported in the next few weeks but the car will have the whole shebang - custom valve train, 103mm, 2.4 Griptec, low side FP, 10% lower pulley, LT, HF cats, 104 UL tune. How much more power would you guess?

I had more work done with the ported blower but they say it's good for up to 30 hp
